The Life Reef Skimmer Club

Your skimmer can only produce a foam head and skimmate if the water chemistry allows it.... if you hav3 a skimmer completely oversized it will form a head and produce skimmate for a short period and then go dormant. This is why when putting a mag12 on a svs24" you see foam a lot less frequently compared to when you have a mag9...
and all those promoting life reef as an improvement have been running drastically oversized skimmers..... This is my point... It is right here in the posts in this thread.

Running a "drastically over sized skimmer" may be an overstatement... Running a skimmer sized a bit larger now that I believe is the norm in this hobby

Now, running a skimmer rated for 250 on a 150gal seems to be just about right... Something tells me you are not running a skimmer rated for exactly what your tank size is? So whats your point?

Funny thing is not many people have mentioned what size their tank is in this thread, yet you generalize that all of us promoting LR run a "drastically oversized skimmer"...

Glad you are smart enough to make that connection... Guess you couldn't understand the point that was being made.

So.... Compare air draw.... Showing me that a life reef with 480 lph air outperforms a reef dynamics ins80 or octo 110nwb with same air draw....

Lol.... The tank size has been mention from all be it this thread or otherwise

I don't really care to. For the record, octo 110nwb is rated for 100 gallons... just saying maybe you should compare apples to apples...

Btw, octo110nwb ran decently on my 55gallon... just didn't like having to adjust it every 2-3 weeks and skimmate was never dark like coffee... more like a medium tea

Fear of reality???? Why so scared to compare Apples to Apples ?

Do you even read posts? lol

You are the one saying to compare a 250+ gallon skimmer to a 100 gallon skimmer?

The comparisons I have done lay in the time I have spent using them on my tanks. The results were shown in the health of the tanks as well as the amount of maintenance or lack there of for each of the skimmers.

Maybe someone else will test the results you are so eager to see or maybe you should just test it for yourself?

Only thing I see is less air is better... Oversized air draw skimmers are less desired...

Asm g2 rated for 200 GALLONS... do compare pleZe...

What up with being scared to compare same air Draw skimmer with same?

I don't know what the air draw is and frankly don't care. To me it's a meaningless number. Clugo found a big clump of algae obstructing his pump intake, that's I'm sure why he wasn't getting adequate bubbles and water flow.

Oversized air draw skimmers are less efficient since the typical cone style leads the air directly to the exit = less turbulence = less contact time = less "efficient"

Obviously I have read the posts... Who is comparing equal air draw ?????

Yogre I pointed that out before and he ignored it. He just wants to troll it seems.

Apparently only LR owners run a skimmer rated higher than their tank volume lol.

This is a pointless discussion. I'm out

Hey everyone. I just bought a used Life Reef Berlin setup with VS-24 skimmer and fuge. Teh skimmer didnt do to well in shipping. The is about (3) 2" cracks that start at the outlet of the PVC around the body. These cracks are about 1-2" in length. I water tested it and it is a slow leak. Can I just slap some Weldon 4 and 16 and call it a day or do I need to drill the very ends of the cracks to keep them from spreading. I will try and post pics tonight.

Thanks,

Eric

So ,again , a proper sized skimmer is best.... Thus how is a skimmer producing320lph at 60 watts better than the same air at 8 watts?

I've definitely seen people repair cracks. Hopefully someone chimes in with more info. How do u like the sump?

Absolutely.

Love the sump layout and everything about it. Regretfully the skimmer chamber broke a piece off. IT is a clean break and should be easily fixed. Should start filling my system up in the next two weeks.
