Why led to your decision to get the 6" extension and How big is your tank? I'm having the same debate to either get the 6" extension or just get a 48". The 48" is the right choice but I would have to modify my stand to make it work

Don't judge but my tank is only a 90 gallon. What led to the 6" extending and cup was that it was inconvenient to empty and clean the cup. So I started thinking why not move out of my sump and go bigger like I wanted to in the beginning. I really like how these things are modular and the 48" is the base of the 72" tall skimmer. I know that some day I will get a bigger tank and now I will have to buy Another skimmer. I like how the 48" and up have the necks centered on body and that the inlet is bottom up unlike the 36" and down that have a pipe tuning the height of the skimmer.

Im not sure if this is appropriate for this thread, if not please delete. I have upgraded to a 300 DD tank and I will also be upgrading my skimmer. Since there is a waiting list for these skimmers and mine is only a few months old I will be selling my new Lifereef VS3-30" skimmer. it was ran externally and will include the Blue line pump. PM me for details.
Once again Sorry if this isn't the right place but this is a great thread for Lifereef and there is waiting list for those the wish to purchase one

Hello all i just joined the lifereef skimmer club, i just got this on ebay for 225 w/o pump good deal???

Used Lifereef SVS2-24 in sump protein skimmer. Used for about 3 months on a 90 gallon system. Rated for up to 250 gallons. Skimmer is 22 1/2" tall. There is some minor encrusting algae still inside because the skimmer has never been scrubbed just lightly cleaned therefore there are next to no scratches on acrylic. No pump is included but all of the tubing is provided. Skimmer is close to $500 dollars new, but I have gotten out of the hobby and no longer need.

beef reading good reviews about the skimmer hope i am not disappointing.....

I have one VS3-30, but I think Im going to order the VS3-72 for the new system coming alive. Is the recommended blue line pump enough for the 1500g water volume I will have? Or should I upgrade pumps? Any other mods that should be done to get the best skim mate possible?

is 225 bucks a good price?

and why are some people putting mods on their skimmers?

That's a good price. My rule of them is 50 cents on the dollar for used equipment

I think it's a combination of boredom and most reefers are OCD to want to mod equipment

Would you guys recommend a laguna 1350 or 2000 for a 36"? I'm expecting about 3-4 feet of head.

I have a VS3-36 with a Mazzei injector and a Fluval Seas SP4 pump and very happy with the results.

The SP4 ( 1800 gph) is a Laguna block but with an included stand and ceramic bearings

I would speak with Jeff about this. I don't know if anyone here has a 72 incher. Please update us with what Jeff says and what pump you decide to go with. Also, please take pictures of that bad boy!!

Vs3-36 problems

Vs3-36 problems

Hello gents and ladies,

I have a problem with my Vs3-36 powered by a mag 12 with a Mazzi.
The water level inside the skimmer tends to shift slightly, but its enough to either make it start skimming very wet (that collection cup fills in 7-8 hours)
OR
it starts skimming very dry and the collection cup will collect less than 1" in 2 days.

I clean my Mag 12 every 12 months and its working perfectly fine. Last cleaning was approx 1 month ago.

Here are the attached pics. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

how often do you clean the neck of your skimmer? can you tell/see if any foam is getting pulled back through the wet air supply hole for the venturi?

I did talk with Jeff, and he said the blue line 40 that he recommends is the "minimum pump" to achieve cost savings. I upgraded it to the blue line 100 when I ordered...
