The Life Reef Skimmer Club

I run a mag 12 on my 24" flanged model. Seems to work great to me but does drink down over 100 watts of juice.

I'm going to get a hold of a kill-a-watt to measure what mine is really pull I bet it's in the 40-50 range. But it's pulls out black tar. Came from a sca-302, this makes me wish I started this tank with one of these.

I've been waiting on the Sicce ADV forever... at this point, it seems like vapor ware. Leaning toward the Fluval SP4 again.

My dcp10000 is working terrific as well have it turned to 80% which amounts to about 1600 gph. Milky white foam, super turbulent inside the body, pitch black skimmate

Hello reefers!
I am going to be setting up a 350 gallon reef setup with probably 100 gallons of sump/refugium/frag tank.

I am leaning towards a Lifereef skimmer. Do you think the SVS3-36 will be enough? It is rated up to 600 gallons.

I am leaning towards an external skimmer possibly. Does the external perform as well or better than the in sump version?

I've got a -48 with the upgraded venturi on a 350G (total) system running external and it works great. I oversized for the future addition of a frag system.

So the 36 is to small. I won't be upgrading in the future. 350 gallons is plenty

I can't say that. The -48 definitely shows no weakness. I would expect the -36 to be fine but please wait for those running a -36 on a similar sized system to comment. I tend to overshoot when it comes to skimmers.

I would honestly just call Jeff. He will ask you a ton of questions about your system like how you want to stock it, future plans, carbon dosing plans, etc. and will recommend accordingly.

Yeah they look awesome. How much do they run for just a basic sump? I was leaning towards a 75 gallon tank that I would put together myself

Sump it self (no reactors or skimmer) for a tank that size I would guess would push a 1k. With all the goodies thrown in and shipping your looking at at least $2500.

That's what I figured.

This is why I started saving money for this build even though it's a couple years away.

You get what you pay for and I don't want to skimp our on this setup.
