The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

well i am about to get some really nice frags from one of my friends in my town. But I'll try to get up some pics asap.

I have a mixed reef, Mainly going to be LPS/ SPS, w a few zoas & softies sprinkled in...Flfireman I know has a mainly SPS corner, his tank is sick, but he also has some crazy... fish!!!

I am going 90% SPS with very few selected LPS. I have some LPS that are going to go once they get replaced with some really sweet pieces, as I find them (which should be Friday at 3am!!!)

My LFS is getting a big shipment of FULL SIZED auzzie SPS and some LPS in Friday, i'm going to go help him unpack at about 2-3am to try and cherry pick, then go to sleep and get back there the next day to cherry pick some more...

I expect to find some nice pieces, and even though I am completely broke-busted atm, VISA and I are going to have a good weekend... I'll post photos, even from the LFS receiving the shippment if I can remember to snap a few...

Please keep us posted, maybe you can some shipped to us, lol!! I love Acans, best of all, my Angels seem to not care for them to much!!

that is awesome... cross-border shipping is always an issue.. and that sucks... I will as Pat what tricks he knows. One nice thing about this LFS is that it is a home-run operation and Pat cherry-picks from some of the distributors so there are always higher end pieces, as well he ships direct from several divers.. end result, higher quality and higher end... check out Ottawa Inverts for some photos of the acans he just got. I'm picking up some pink ones this weekend that we fragged last week.

BTW, I took the photos so I can verify no color adjustment, which there should have been to at least white-balance the stuff.. LOL, but Pat wouldnt let me touch the photos.

Ok, got the lighting thing done. Still have to hook up the ballast but haven't figured out where I'm gonna stick my electric box yet. Told you I was gonna use the corner walls, no brainer.

misled... I love the look of the tank, how big is it? and are you going to put in VHO's or just have a metal halide?

It's a 54 AGA corner. There's room for a couple dual t5's but I want to see it without them first. This reflector is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread so I'm trying it with a 12k 250 bulb and may leave it at that.

I have a few Q's. Not exactly corner related, but I'm thinking about getting rid of my tiny 10g sump and putting a 40g sump in my basement.
I have a 40g long that i'm trying to design.
Q#1: What's the best way to add balasts to a glass aqiarium? or can someone direct me to a thread about this? i know there has to be one but I cant find anything.
Q#2: What does everyone recommend for a new Protein skimmer because I'm guessing my CPR SR2 wont be sufficient. it's only up to 60g and my new sump will make the load about 90g.
this is mainly so I can add an ATO.
any other advice would be helpful to. thanks!
Courtney

Kelso, Glass tank, use glass baffles attached with silicone. For acrylic, acrylic baffles with acrylic cement. If you go to www.melevsreef.com you should be able to find some designs.

did you design the stand? or did you buy it like that?

Did it myself. The factory stands wouldn't fit my sump or skimmer. The stand is 36" high. With the tank it's 58 3/4" high. Great for viewabilty.

Hi Michael! Thanks for the invite, I have never seen this thread before and am glad you showed me. I will start my first post with a pic.....not of my DT but my sump and fuge. I will take a DT shot soon for all ya...Dont have an updated one...

Anyway....its a 10 gallon sump/fuge with a EuroReef RS80 that I drilled for a waste runoff into that water jug. The fuge is a 4 gallon home depot bucket that has just Chaeto in it. I used to have bad nitrate trouble (>30)....then ever since the addition of that fuge I have constantly been at 0...Large Bluelife filter sock and a bag of carbon in the sump near the return pump. The pipe on the far right with the ball valve is not the return...it is the the T-off line back to the sump from the return for adjusted flow...

I would normally say something like...."you have no idea how hard that was to fit all that there in a 54 corner stand"....but you all do so nevermind...haha.

hey smalls thats crammed under there:lol: well done to get it all in, i can see some planning went into it, i assume its easy enough to get to the skimmer, although it looks tight, i like the fudge, looks really good, im thinking about something like that myself, good job well done:)

the canopy looks brilliant jesse, interesting to see what its like on when the room is dark,i think you should get a couple of actinics under the hood as well, plenty of room, and they will complement the halide

Jesse, nice work, I cant wait to see it once you have water in there, I do agree w Michael, in that you should add some kind of Actinics.

Smalls, your sump is a typical sump of us cornerer's cramed but efficient. I want to add a fuge & will eventually, I'll turn my frag section to a fuge, but not now, not yet.

Kelso unfortunately I have no info on ballast on a glass aquarium, but I can tell you tha if your going to have a sump in the basement you should have a good return pump. As far as your skimmer, look into the Aquaclear HOB Remoras, they are great, they are rated for up to 75 gallons, but they have one thats rated up to 120 & its not that much more, I had one & loved it!! GL.

very nice sump set up smalls. i was thinking of putting a fuge up on somethig like that. though if i did, i couldnt reach the power supply.

hmm need to move something around
