The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

I have 2 MJ 1200 mods. One on each side wall, middle of the tank, by the front glass, pointing up to the top of the middle of the tank. My return is through a seaswirl on the overflow.

Screen top?

Screen top?

Well here are a few pictures of my tank now that it is up and cycling.

Has anyone put a screen lid on these tanks? or do most people just put up a Hood that covers the top? Don't want any carpet surfing.

I ended up pulling one of the 850's out, and putting the other one on the left side panel at the front. This creates a gyre effect around the tank, and really provides good flow thru out. I have the return aimed right into my rock formation, that should prevent any detrius from building up in it.

You can get a piece of white egg crate from Home Depot, it's used in suspended ceilings under lights as a diffuser. You cut it to fit your tank, that way the air and light get thru and fish can't get out.

I have glass tops for my tank that I'll never use..........but they came with the tank so I took them.

So here goes nothing. After reading all your posts and seeing pics of your corner tanks I went and obtained one for my self and the wife saw the potential in it and said lets put it in the bed room. So now I'm going to try and upload some pics of how the build is coming along, bear with me I'm new to the pic thing lol.

The deal fell through around Christmas, but the seller contacted me and asked if I was still interested. Needless to say, I am.

That looks like a big corner tank, what size is it?

Steve

4' x 4' x 30", It's a 235 gallon by outside dimensions.

I was originally intending to do a closed loop with a Barracuda and an OM 4 way, but now I'm thinking two mp40's. There is a considerable power savings with the vortechs, but I could completely hide the closed loop. Anyone have an opinion on that?

Personally, I would go with the Vortechs. Better mounting, more flexibility, and better automation. How close is the tank to the wall? I think you need at least 3 inches for the dry side if you go Vortechs.

Wow that is a awesome corner tank! Wish one of those would have been around when I got my 210! Can't wait to see it filled up!

54 gal corner project

54 gal corner project

Well here is the start to my stand already drilled and was able to barely get a 20 gallon in there for the sump/refugium. Anyone have any ideas on how to make it better let me know before I finish it please. Would a ten gallon be enough for a sump refugium or is the bigger the better the way to go? This is my first Saltwater/reef tank. Open to all suggestions.

I'm using a 10 gal as a sump on my tank, I wanted to find a 15gal tall but I couldn't find one. The 10 is working fine for me, 3 sections....one for input and skimmer, one for live rock and heaters, and one for the return pump.

That's the problem with the 54 corner stands, there just isn't enough room for a bigger sump. But, my wife is starting to come around to my thinking of putting the sump in the basement.
