The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

It seems that they R-rated to cover a 30" x 30" x 30" area with the standard 80° optics that they come with however you can upgrade to 120° optics but it reduces it from the 30 inch depth to the 24 inch depth & increases the 30 x 30" square two around 40x40"

With the 120 optics you can mount it closer to the water surface which will raise the par at the sandbed.

It depends on how you are mounting them too..........inside a hood you won't have the space to have them super high. Hanging from the wall or ceiling you can mount them at any height you want.

Hello. Fellow 54 corner tank owners here. It is unique in the shape and absolutely makes lighting difficult, the sump has limited space and to access the overflow is awkward. But it looks amazing and everybody loves it. I'll post pics soon. I just set it up 14 weeks ago.

I'm using my Koralia 850's with a smartwave until the new Jebao controller hits the States.

What is the best placement of 2 pumps in this tank for best water movement?

I've been trying them in different locations, and nothing is making me happy.

If you are talking about the 850's I don't really have experience with those....Try one facing the opposite wall closer to the over flow and the other pump going across the front glass towards the opposite wall as the first. I feel like that made no sense at all BTW...:hmm4:

LOL...........no sense at all.

I have them on each side glass, back towards the overflow, near the top, aimed straight ahead, alternating 15 seconds between them. The return is aimed dead center of the front glass.

Seems to be giving good flow for the corals.........leave it alone for a while I guess.

Yeah. As long as the corals like it. Here soon you won't have to worry about. When you get your jebaos you will be trying to figure out how to turn down the flow. :D

My 54 gal corner tank build. Have the stand and canopy done finally, I built it all from scratch! Now all I haveto do is finish all the ssanding/painting. Now to tackle theplumbing iI have a 20 gal regular tank for the fuge with the return in the middle section fuse and skimmer on opposite sides. Any suggestions on how to plumb it would be appreciated! So far the equipment is a Tao tronics 165w full spectrum led, it looks amazing! Sca 301 skimmer and still unsure for the return pump, once again open to suggestions this is my first saltwater/reef tank.

That's a nice looking setup.

If you are doing an internal return pump, your options are endless. Sicce and Eheim get great reviews, are silent, and will have plenty of power for the 4' of head you'll have.

Steve

I got the tunze variable speed model and it provides plenty of flow and is completely silent. Being able to vary the flow from my iPad is pretty cool too.

Alright thank you I will look into them at 4 ft of head how many GPH should I be running?

I believe the reef ready tanks overflows are good to 600gph, so if you find a pump that is doing in the 600+ range at 4' of head you would be good. You can always install a ball valve to control the flow to exactly what you need.

I'm running a mag9.5 on my 54 corner. I have it plumbed with three total outputs, 2 of the three are valved. No issues and great circulation.

I'm going to be moving my sump to the basement, so I'm going to be pushing 10' of head. I want to be right around 300gph at the return, and I'm looking at the Pan World PH-50PX. They seem to get great reviews online, and they are reasonable in price.

Hey Steve, I think you'll be very happy with the basement sump, I know I am. Probably the greatest improvement I've ever made to my tank. Most of the noise goes with the sump, and I don't have to get on my knees to work on it. Plus, I can have a large make up water container and water changes are much easier since I can pump the new water into my sump instead of carrying buckets. Also, my temps stay cooler in the summer. All in all, the only negative is out of sight, out of mind. I'm down there almost every day though. I think your pump selection is good, I didn't look at the pump curve, but it seems like you'll just make your target. Probably wouldn't hurt to slightly oversize if it's right on the edge, you may want to add reactors later, or decide you need a little more flow through the sump.
