The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Yeah, I think it's going to be a good move. Heat in the summer will be easier to handle since it's cool in the basement, all the noise will be in the basement, the smell of the skimmate will be in the basement, it's all for the good.

I'm going to use a 30 breeder, same skimmer, same heaters, and I'm going to get a new return pump. Still debating on an external or internal pump........not sure which way I'm going to go with that.

Steve

If I go external, I'm going to have to go a little bigger to allow for elbows and loc line tubing.........probably the Pan World 100PX and throttle it down.
If I go internal, I'm going to have to go with the Mag Drive 12 and throttle it down as well.

I'm picking up a 30 breeder today, then I'll get some glass panels, build a shelf, get the pump..............still about a month away from getting it all done.

I looked at the DC return pumps, but in order to cover the head I'll have it will end up having way too much flow for me.

I could put the return pump on a VFD (variable frequency drive) and have total control over it..........but now I'm getting too crazy...........LOL

I installed a variable speed pump and it is great to be able to control the flow. For example during feeding, you can reduce the flow going to the pump without completely turning it off.

Steve, I was going to ask if you had considered the jebao dc pumps. I had the post all typed up, but the token expired and &@$$ed me off. I'm considering replacing my mag 18 with one, it consumes about half the power. They're still relatively new, so the reviews are a bit thin. I'll probably wait a bit because I have a pump, but if I were in the market today I'd probably take the chance. I'm going to try to attach the pump curves, do note the flow is in L/hr and head height is in meters.

These are controllable pumps and can be run as low as 60% with the included controller, six steps to 100%. They are supposed to be run internally. If they work as advertised, they seem like a really good option.

If my sump was staying under the tank, I had considered the DC3000.
But now with the sump going to the basement, it looks like the DC9000 will fit the bill but probably safer to do the DC12000 since it's only about $20 more.

Durability is the big question, these pumps are unproven compared to the AC pumps already on the market.

Went with a BlueLine 40HD external pump.

Had to go with a proven performer with head pressure over the unproven model.

A recent shot of my tank, things are doing much better now that it's been 2 months since the swap over. Lost 2 heads of my Frogspawn, but 2 made it......and the other corals are doing well.
