Are those 2 Reefbreeder Photons?

Your horizontal runs of pipe are going to restrict your drain flow a lot, might be something you have to change in the future. Easier now before it's wet.

Yes they are good eye. A 48 in front and a 32 in back. The head loss calculator gives me about 650 gph which is low for tank turnover, but about all I want running through my sump (between 16 and 18x sump volume, don't really want more than 20x.) Not too energy efficient though, it takes a mag 18 to get that. I'll eventually go to a dc pump if I can find one that will overcome my head pressure and still put out 600-800 gph. I probably should have used spa-flex on the return to eliminate those 90s and 45s, but I'm a pipefitter and couldn't bring myself to do it.

I had a short horizontal run in my drain line, and it killed my flow. It was only about 2 feet long, but I could see the water backing up in it, and I was getting a flushing effect in my stand pipe.
Now it goes straight down from the tank thru the floor, then a 45 degree slope right into my filter sock holder. No more flushing effect, and I can open my pump up 100% if I wanted to and it handles it.

Oh, you meant in the drain, we're you (attempting) to run a full siphon, or were you running an open channel or durso? I wasn't planning to run a wet test, but I think I'll bring the garden hose inside and let it rip. I really think I've got enough vertical fall to pull a strong siphon, but it can't hurt to test it. We're you having problems after you went to a basement sump? That long, tall column of water can overcome a lot of less than ideal plumbing. The only change to what I was running previously is those horizontal runs and the associated fittings.

I run a Durso, but the issue was in the horizontal run. I use vinyl tubing to avoid any hard corners and to have the smoothest flow possible.

Give it a wet test and see how it performs, at worst you would have to remove the 90's and go with 45's instead.

Film on the surface.

Film on the surface.

Hi:wave:
New here.... I was trying to read through all the post and got a bit light headed with all the info.. I have a 50 gallon Pentagon shape salt water tank.. Started in Feburary.. I check my water weekly trying to explain why my fishes are not lasting more than a week or two and now I discover that its becuase of lack of oxygen. There is a film covering the surface of my tank. I have a small occilator breaking the surface of the water but its not enough, I think... What else can I do?

Hi Lily, is it safe to assume you don't have a sump? Do you have a canopy and are you pushed all the way into the corner? More surface agitation will help, a hang on protein skimmer also if you don't already have one would be beneficial. One other thing that may help slightly is running on the low end of the acceptable temperature range. Cooler water is slightly more oxygen saturable and will lower your fish's metabolism.

Hi Im14abeer.... I started to read this blog from the very beginning to pick up the tank/coral/fish lingo. I'm on page 6 hahahaha.. no I don’t have a sump, and I am guessing a need one as well as a protein skimmer.. we usually run the a.c. cold in the house so at least that part is covered.. Do you know any links that I can look at or protein skimmers that I can purchase that are good and won’t break the bank? I have to buy adequate lights, as of now all I have are the lights that the hood came with.. I’ve been trying to figure out how to keep my fish alive before I move on to the next step of buying lights. My husband cut a whole into the wall to fit the tank in, therefore the front and side views are facing the living room and the back is in a bedrooms closet. (crazy, I know)
Thanks for your help, I/m the only fish fiend in my circle therefore can’t ask my peeps around me.

Due to the fact you have the most experience whit corner reefs I have a few questions

I have jewel trigon 190 whit a 10 gallons sump so total of 60 gallon
Aqua-medic turbo flotor 1000

ATS algae scrubber

I have personal fish top three
1 CCB
2 yellow tang / lionfish.

My tank is only about 50 gallons (Netto)

So I was wondering what is possible all three not I guess.

I currently still have
6 snail
2 Nemo
2 dart fish
And some coral
I now only have 70L in new tank whit some fresh rock
So tank is not ready for fish now .
P.s. I do still have my 25 gallon tank up an running

Sorry about the glare, I'll replace those after I can get some shots at night.
It's still a bit of a work in progress, not everything is in it's place yet. Close enough for public consumption though.
