The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

I found some of the stuff on a local lumber store's website and put together a quick price list:

• One F.S.RED OAK V.C. 3/4" SHOP $59.99 or F.S.RED OAK V.C. 3/4" PREMIUM $89.99
• 48’ of RED OAK S4S 1X4 @ $2.69/lf = $129.12
• One BEADBOARD OAK 4'x8'x5/32" $19.99

I couldn’t find the Oak Veneer for the edges of the top and bottom though.

So as low as $210 CAD...not too bad...

Thank you everybody for the kind comments...

your welcome you deserve the kind comments, what would be nice is a full tank spec, show your lighting, sump filteration, and list all your stock and rock quantitiy etc in one post, if possible, youve raised the bar for corner tanks, and a blog or a complete post showing it off would be great, if you get time start a blog, have a look at my red house, you could do exactly the same and if you dont mind me interfering i would be very very happy to help you set it up, you could then make it your home page and it would become your red house:) if you want to do it, you know where i am , well done:)

What material did you use for the front of the canopy? Looks awesome!

Welcome frasersen!!! The front is 1/8 inch acrylic painted with about 6 coats of a couple different paints. First 2 coats of fussion flat black spray to bond to the acrylic, then 4 coats of satin black rustolium rolled on.

Michael, did you get the mod yet? I'm doing something with mine I'll show you tonight.

OK, so I made a pump. I tried the maxi jet mod. It's very good at moving a ton of water and is very quiet. I hate the way it mounts. First suction cups. I could just see the sandstorm when they let go. Then, it takes up quite a bit of space. Not too much but still annoying.

I introduce to you the MaxiKoraliaFlow.

I switched to the mj 400 bodies. Removed the cap and epoxied a magnet from some koralia 1's I had.

Then glued the cap on. I've lost directionality. But I've greatly reduced the profife. With the 400's and the sea swirl I'm putting on I'll be over 50 times for turnover so I don't thing there's gonna be that much settling going on anyway.

i did order 1 jesse and then changed my mind and bought another tunze 6025 instead, a lot more expensive, but im taking the 3 koralias out of the tank and adding a third tunze, i will just stick with them i think

Sorry to just blurt out in the middle of the conversation, but... Damn this corner tank is hard to clean! Im 6'2" and I cant even reach all the way to the back! My back is killing me! LOL

Depending on your rock structures, it's tough to clean even with a long handled scraper. You can't get enough angle on the coralline to get it off. I've used a razor blade by hand, but I still cannot get to certain wide-open areas on the back without shredding my hand on the LR.

personally I'll leave the caroline that grows on the back walls. They are painted black anyway so it doesn't effect my view.
I'll use a long handle scraper to get anything else off the back walls but caroline on the back of the tank is more work then its worth to get rid of.

I've got slightly different situation - so I don't know if I qualify for your club! I have a rectangular tank, but it's built high into a wall in an extremely tight corner of a room. I have to use a step ladder to get in and then weave myself to get behind and above it. It's extremely difficult to get to the far end of the tank.
It's a 75 gallon FOWLR. I only started it in the late fall. It looks really nice in the room, but I guess I regret the layout because it's so very difficult to access. I have a 35 gallon sump against another wall and wires and tubes all over the place.

I get out the painting ladder and take off the fake rim (9 inch fiberglass lidless shell) to clean my 54 to the bottom. I can only imagine with the taller ones.

There is allegedly a device you pass over the outer glass that heats and kills coralline so you can scrape it more easily. Whether this works or not, I don't know.

You can also get a paint scraper with an arched handle that gives you a bit of leverage.

on this rockscape, I carefully arranged all rock in a pyramid giving me full access to glass.

i just let whatever grow on the sides. the only thing i wipe down is the front witha mag float. the shadow cast by my koralia #1 is ALL coraline, kinda neat.

i think thats going to look the business jesse when theres life in it, i really like the rock wall, are you going for sps in there
