The Scleractinia Shallows

Man those bubbles are huge! I wish I had that strain of bubble algae... Mine are tiny as hell and cluster into masses quickly. Impossible to remove from any rock that's not completely flat. Does your algae look like that in some spots too or is it all big bubbles? I just started vibrant last week. Do you think it's better to break up the weekly dose in two. Keep us updated! I was wondering if it would work on spores as well.
Sorry to hear about the bellus, we just paired our two together. Them and the ebli are the only ones left :( it's funny the ebli is best friends with it's lookalike ebli tang.

Yeah I have some that are at least half the size of a golf ball and maybe even getting towards the same size haha
I don't get the tight growth like that, they're all individual bubbles of varying sizes but I know the sort of stuff you're talking about and hopefully the vibrant kills it off!!
I have thought about whether it would work on spores or not but if it doesn't then popping everything will prolong the treatment time as you'll have to wit for the spores to settle and grow before they become effected!
Yeah I was pretty upset as she was such a cutie! At least my little monster wrasse is cool :D

Just a small update for the moment, I'm balls deep in exams and need some distraction haha. On the bright side I've finally scored myself a job relevant to my field of study and it's more than likely going to lead into full-time work when I finish next year :D I'm over the moon about this and it's definitely fascinating work too which is a bonus lol

Vibrant dosing is going well and the bubble algae is diminishing slowly, all the large bubbles have gone mostly and the smaller ones still remain. The tank colours are okay and things are doing alright but rather neglected as I just haven't had the time with assignments and exams in the last month or so :( Need to do about half a dozen water changes to get things back in shape which I will be doing post exams lol. Once I finish exams I go full-time for a few weeks at the new job so it'll give me a little spending room to fill the tank up a bit :D Looking forward to adding some more fish now that I have the big-a$s skimmer running and boy am I loving the R8i!! It's nasty!

Seeing as Matt mentioned pictures last time here's a few flubber shots, the acro pics were terrible lol

Congrats on the job and good luck with the exams!
I see a couple acros in there...... actually that's all I see!
I'll give you some slack on account of the workload.
But not for long! ;)

That slack will not last for long though:p

Thanks Matt, I was stoked when I heard back from them and was in and working as fast as I could! It worked out even better as someone from their is leaving so I'll be taking his job too rather than them having to find something for me to do lol
haha there's a few hiding around and the colours aren't awful but all I see is bubble algae lol that's definitely been a compounding impact on my slacking haha

Thanks Mike! I'll make sure not to disappoint anyone
:celeb1: hopefully with the new job and a little more spending money I'll be able to get some more goodies and finally start getting the tank filled in :)

hey Dom!
tank is looking great! what a difference a few months can make :D
hope you get those bubble algae in check!
Cheers
Thanks Flo :) I'm getting happier with things but still needs some work and now that I've finished 3 out of 4 exams that can happen :)

Looks great Dom, good luck on the exams!

You and Matt are in a bubble algae contest of some sort?
Thanks Mark :)
Only in a competition if I win

Bubble algea, schmubble algea!! Grumble mumble.... I think my cheato is slowing it down..and perhaps my going in regularly and popping them.
Pop, Dom, pop!!
Good luck on henlast exam.
My daughter's doing her last exam today as wel.

i hope positiv finis? :D :reading:
2 of 3 went really well and I'm hoping tomorrow's final exam is a good one too :)

I'll be crafting a tool tomorrow, involving a bunch of pins and some hard tubing for popping/siphoning action! lol I'm hoping that with the vibrant and pretty much everything popped it won't be able to grow back too well!
Thanks Matt :) I CANNOT wait for it to be over! I'll be going straight from the exam to Deer Park to spend a few hours there lol

This tool sounds good We'll need pictures of that and deer park!

It was a very crude weapon that worked well haha just two pin heads superglued onto the end of some 5mm tubing so I can pop and siphon in one swift destructive blow  didn't take any pics while I was there as it was pretty much purely a social visit

Deer park, deer park, deer park!!
It was so nice be around all the fish and corals haha I went straight from the exam and back again today :D lol pity I can't go tomorrow, we're getting a super duper, secret special LPS order that is meant to be mind-blowing lol hopefully I can score a nice goni from it lol

Well I can happily say that things are most definitely starting to get back on the up :) I've been through the tank with my specialised weapon of mass destruction twice now, ridding the tank of most of the large bubbles and popping anything big enough to get the end of a safety pin into! While the weapon is more of a very crude rusted device of pure torture it works like a charm lol. The Vibrant seems to be working a lot more effectively now as there are no big bubbles left that leave a heap of spores when they die.
I've done a couple of 25L water changes in the last week as well with the AF probiotic salt, which I'm still really really enjoying! However with the low stocking of the tank and frequent water changes I've stopped dosing all the bacteria into the tank and it's just getting bacteria from water changes which was the right move! I spent an hour or so last night giving the tank a once over on the outside so clean off all the salt creep and spray and everything looks brand new lol I also gave the sandbed a bit of a siphon and pulled out some fun colours as always...
I've also added about another 3-5kg (7-13lb) of sand as I noticed one of my sand sleeping wrasse babies had some scale damage on her flanks so I've pumped her bed up with sand and moved the mass a little further from the rocks to hopefully avoid her from any more damage but she's fine regardless, has no idea! I also topped up some of the other area's with sand as well as it has been lacking in the front left corner for a while.

Once I finally have some cash over the next week or two I'll be able to get a CO2 bottle to get the calcium reactor up and running and hopefully get some growth cranking along! lol I'm also contemplating something special fish-wise for my tax return present haha

I suppose my ramblings are a little boring without some pictures! Here's my bubble algae torture device! (Yes I got as much glue on my fingers as I did on this while making it )

A crappy evening tank shot from last night before the water change (yes the screen is still not pretty hahaha)

P.S They're not my ugg boots but we all know I use them waaayy too much, the guys downstairs at the cafe get disappointed if I come in and I'm not wearing them :lolspin:

Water changes are great for the soul... And your tank. I used the af probiotic salt and it didn't have any effects. We need a close up of the tank and to see the progress of the vibrant dosing. That is one medieval torture device you cooked up for those bubbles.

Maybe you can help me pick out a new wrasse for my tank. I'm leaning towards a romboid but I'm open to any, well almost any wrasse.

I didn't notice your screen top or your boots in the picture.
