THE Tank Build By Aqua Digital

Ok so I'm a fan of slow flow if it's equal to what you skimmer can process :)

shoot for 600-700g running in the sump, if you have a fuge, re-route some water from the return and you can control the flow with a valve.

Why don't you just throttle back the Tunze if its too much flow, or go to the smaller Tunze silence pump....

I don't know how it could be louder than an aquabee, mine is seriously dead silent. I cant hear a single thing from the tank. I hear the overflow the most, which means I'm attempting a new durso this weekend. After that the cooling fans on my ATI PM are the next loudest thing. My pumps are all dead silent.

Im also a huge fan of slower flow through the sump. I never understood the people who put a ton of flow through their sumps with a dart or some other huge external pump. Slower means the skimmer can keep up with everything... It only makes sense to me.

Or you can also tee off and power a reactor.... I have mine handling the return to the tank and my GFO....

mabe to clear it up for every one, how much is low and how much is high...

low less then 500
high more then 500

but on all of my tank I alway shoot for 600-700gph

Problem solved, aqua bee re installed, tank so much sweater and flow seems much nicer :)

Next topic - I got fish today, Wahoo some bioload at last ;)

I'm on that same train of thought.

I ran a 1400GPH external on my 180, but it just sucks down a TON of power, and theres no need to run that much water through my sump. I listened to the people who have huge external pumps going through their sumps when I set it up. :sad2:

The main build is pretty much finished ;)

As you can see below the lights are in place and fully programmed to the GHL, in fact the Profilux has pretty much full control of every aspect of the tank. This weekend I will do a review of what is controlled, how it is controlled and screen shots of programmed software pages.

The hanging kit was custom made by Chris (Boboxx) I have to thank him for the amazing job he did of this and also of course the quality stand.

The pump debate actually produced a huge oversight on my part, I guess running a business and also trying to do a tank build made me lose my head. I forgot the most important element and that was to at least have a flow rate to match the skimmers requirements and I was WAY short of that, this has lead to not enough draw from the surface of the water to stop bio film, so i now have a suitable balanced tunze coming that will draw 500L and hour at 1.5 meters, perfect for the skimmer and tank, thanks to Phil at Xenia for shipping it so fast :)

The photos below show the lights are on about 60% at this time as they are slowly dimming for the evening. As you can see they are mega bright and need to be throttled right back. If you are looking for ultimate light control then seriously get these units :) The ProfiLux cloud simulation is amazing also, I have it set to 25% and 50% dimming at random.

thanks, its coming along.

Just done my daily dose of Ultra Bio and Ultra Bak, but will switch to ProdiBio next week.

I have just fine tuned the Ai lamps, got it all pretty sweat now, but of course will have to lower the day time intensity down when the first corals arrive, which of course will be a while off yet.

As for flow pumps, i have always been a fan of Tunze and it would be a hard sell to get me to switch, these 6055's are totally silent and so smooth.

I am a Tunze fan also. I run 2 6100 and 2 6200 on my 240. I ran smaller 6045's 4 of them and had problems with all 4 within a yr and 3 of the bracket holders broke. They would stop working all the time. Bummer

I have had my 6055 for the past 2 years and never had a problem with the pump or the bracket... I'm a big fan of Tunze... I will never switch to vortech, they have too many moving parts that wear and require too much maintenance... I just don’t see the advantage.

I bet you are getting some AMAZING shimmer too with the top being so turbulent. Its crazy how similar are setups r though.

yer the shimmer is great, and will get a lot better once i sort out rhe bio flim due to low flow :( should have pump on Monday, hmm that reminds me need to email phil.....

The bubble magus skimmer rocks, I have had in the last 20 years pretty much all the fancy names and this beast is awsome :)

Just planning the auto water change now and then in April the balling chambers ;) The AWC will be as follows

1/4 Ro line gravity drained from sump to basement about 12' below direct to drain, this will be controlled by a solenoid. The ATO sensor will be switched to dual mode ATO/AWC and a second low sensor for the AWC lower limit draw off.

In the coat closet behind the tank will be a large (ish) vat, this will at present plans feed the tank with new water via a tiny power head. The tank will drain and replace 1L twice a day so approx 10% a week.

Due to only draining off 1L at a time the tank will not have to have any equipment down time making the water change process and programming very simple.

I think you have a film because your tank isn't actually surface skimming.

Your durso looks too high to me, so the water is filling the overflow and staying at that level. You want the water to drop into the overflow chamber an inch or so to get good surface skimming. This will make a huge difference. Plus getting the durso down into the overflow will allow you to make a cap for the top of it and clean the area up some as well.

I just had to redo my durso to quiet things down, I used a sanitary tee, cut a 1/4" off the edge, put a street tee into it with a 1/4" cut out of it, then took a 1.5" to 3/4" reducing bushing that I cut down into it, and then added a small 3/4" plug to that. The entire size of the durso is much more compact this way, and I have the water dropping about one inch into my overflow. It is now dead silent in the room, I cant believe how long Ive dealt with the noise on my 180 now that I have the new tank going.
