THE Tank Build By Aqua Digital

My Durso is silent that there is no issue, the issue for me to create the weir effect is that it would lower my water level too much as the grills are cut quite low, i would lose about 3" of real estate if i lowered my durso to create the skum sucking weir.

When i get the new pump i will work out what height I want and will then (very neatly) block the grills below this level in effect creating a new height of entry to the weir box.

Unless anyone has other suggestions?

:eek1: Photos please ;)

Are you asking for me to post photos ??? Ill throw some up, I just didnt want to clutter your thread... :beer:

My first attempt was a normal looking durso, but unfortunately the top is just way too tall since I want the entire durso in the overflow so I can cover it and make it cleaner.....

Second thought was ditch the cap on top, do a reducer and plug, and then do a sweeping street 90:

I didnt like the striaght edges of that tee and I wanted to try to make it more of a sweeping design... So I used a sanitary tee and sanitary elbow. They end up being a little wider thoughand there was still some spots in the durso that werent "smooth"....

Got another sanitary tee and elbow, cut them where the red line shows so there was about 1/4" or so left on the tee and on the elbow to glue together:

After that, I cut down the reducing bushing (1.5" to .75" in my case) so the entire bushing would recess into the sanitary tee. the edges inside were perfectly contoured, nice, smooth, and compact so I could fit it under my overflow, and I drop about 1.5" down so I get great surface skimming and zero noise.

And of course the new stuff from progressive reef in the background... Looking forward to the step by step dosing instructions. :thumbsup:

It looks like the water level is in the middle of the intake slots now, it should still be right around there with a lower durso, it might lower a little bit, but not a whole lot... It definitely wont drop 3" unless those slots are that huge, which is definitely not good....

My Durso is like yours (the first one) and works pefect, the issue is not enough flow and the slots being too deep. Once i get the bigger pump that does not over drive the tank i can find the right water level then block the slots to meet the right height then lower the Durso.

Looks lie you have something blocking yours? what did you use? I can see a step inside the box. ;)

Its a glass cages tank, they make their overflows out of glass, then you can buy a PVC cover that wraps around it to hide it....

I just wanted to say why I thought you had a biofilm...... :D

I definitely think my next lighting will be the AI stuff though, Im just hoping the pricing comes down in my lifetime on LED lighting. :lmao:

Michael, contact someone and have them make a new overflow cover. Should not cost much and then u can tell them how deep and wide u want the cuts to be. I used myreefcreations on a few different overflows and they do great work.

First corals are in :) Courtesy of Pat at www.ottawainverts.com

Tri coloured Ricordea - reason = for a new set up this is an ideal choice for the tank

Bright orange Monti frag - reason = Very hardy and a good indicator of tanks stability

Nothing else will be added for two weeks.

Dosing -

2 drops of FM Bio per day
1ml of Ultra Bak
0.5ml of ultra Min-S

Ultra Life is being dosed also at present due to new fish introduction and the tank being new.

Paremeters

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0.2
P04 = 0.1
Ca = 460
MG = 1410
DKH = 7
Salinity = 1.0249

I will be switching to ProdiBio shortly as it needs to be reviewed by us.

I am not yet dosing any minerals as the draw on the tank is too low to warrant it, as soon as I see a dip in any of the 3 elements then I will set the balling up.

Combination of two things

1. Ottawa Inverts pre 100% cured Fiji live rock that also comes heavily scrubbed before curing, so I had zero cure time in the system and providing a mature bacterial bed from the start. This is something Oi are known for, their "perfect" rock.

2. early dosing of Ultra Bio and Ultra bak.

Now there is a draw back to this, yes all params are normal in 2 weeks but there is a slight cloudyness to the water that is either coming from a heavy Bio bloom or from the aragonite being stirred up (I adjusted this last night). Also the tank is on mega slow flow rate right now while I wait for the right pump.

The sytem now needs to settle naturally for a week, keeping check on all params daily.

One thing for sure, everything is thriving, life is popping out of the LR daily and the two little corals are bursting out of themselves with size and colour :)

Ahh I though your rock was dry base rock. It looks so dead...:twitch:

Regardless this is a sweet build!

EEK! Dont let Pat from Oi hear you say that LOL

No its well scrubbed then heavily cured in their own systems.

Its Walter Smith Fiji premium that they have flown in not boated in keeping the rock even fresher before going through their own curing process. It costs more but you can see the benefits!

Well its not scrubbed but there are a couple key points that make our rock awsome:

1)This rock is shipped in by the airlines directly to us so it is less than 48 hours from the time it leave Walt Smith International until the time that it is in our rock bins in our warehouse. This is obviously a major key point for our rock as it maintains so much more biological diversity that its just unbeleavable!

2) Our rock storage bins have crazy high flow rates + they are black walled so they do not allow any light in. Periodically we take each piece of rock, blow it off in the high flow and transfer it to the next bin with clean SW. So our rock isnt fully "cooked" but it does help make it very clean and shed all unwanted algae.

3) Heavy skimming is keys through this process! Every one of our rock bins has a ORCA skimmer running on it. Even with such a quick shipping time these monsters pull unbeleavable amounts.

Quick update -

New pump fitted now pulling 500L/hr and the pump is "silent" Tunze 1073.02.

Cloudy water = 75% gone :)

Params as of this morning

Salinity 1.0249
Redox 325mV
pH 8.02
Temp 28c
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0.03
PO4 0.03
Ca 470 (suspect new aragonite causing high Ca)
DKH 8
Mg 1410

All fish settled in and the two test corals thriving.

Big ProfiLux revue update to follow :)
