This One Goes Out To All Those Whos Wife Said NO!!!

Ok, so i finally assembled part of my team for the stand. I was able to get my mom and aunt to get down on the painting. As i said i went with an ivory color, then to go over it with a deep brown to antique it. The brown is an oil based paint mixed with paint thinner, you apply then wipe with a cloth. Any way enough yacking here is some of the pics.

My next move will be to get the top on and painted with holes cut for the plumbing. Also this week i hope to get the doors mounted as well as all harware. After thats complete i will start cleaning the 55 gallon sump tank i bought used for 30 dollars, and have a glass cutter get my baffles ready for my next crew. My next crew will consist of mike francis, and mike prater (from slash), to do a mach up of all the plumbing and get the sump ready. I will be going with melevs suggestions of the f-style found on his website. I also will get the rest of the plumbing parts for my skimmer. I have all my pumps, 2 mag 12s, and i have two media reactors that need to be figured out as well. The stand has been a heck of a challange for a first timer, but i am very pleased with how it has turned out, and was very fun to do. Gotta love the diy....

Ok so this is a little offf subject, but i got together with the engineer of our company who is a good friend of mine to talk about a diy reef controller. We are both avid building automation guys who do alot of work in the medical center for hospitals and critical enviornments. It would be more expensive to build my own controller using our controllers, but it would give me the ability to program and use 8 inputs and 8 outputs. I could then link this to an ip address on my network, and build graphics to control and monitor my system anywhere from my phone or laptop. While i know this is possible for other controllers, i would be able to write the code and prgram myself. I have access to the controller card and may start testing it to see if it will be worth my effort. My inputs would be as such.

1. Temp
2. Ph
3. Salt water top off
4. Fresh water top off

there would be more just cant think of any right now. Any ways its in the planning stage.

Cool juggernaut, always good to see a fellow texan on the thread. Not a whole lot of progress has been made, in fact i have kinda neglected the build. I have the base of the stand almost 100% complete just need to put the top on and start the painting process. I have my aunt down from illinois and i would like her to do a faux finish on the base, but due to time we have not been able to schedual a time. End of next month i will have my cousin prater down from illinois to help assemble the sump and plumbing. Sort of at a stand still until i can get these people assembled to help me assemble. Should be alot of good progress between this months and next.

Cool..i didnt even realize you were from Houston. I live in Lake Jackson...its about 45 minutes south of houston close to angleton. I like the stand...great job on the paint job...so what is your favorite LFS?

oh man, theres a couple i like. I love anything fish out there off 45 south in pasadena, kevin the owner always has amazing things to look at. Next i would have to say fish gallery. and lastly there is a place by my house thats calles b&b who always has fish at a good price.

And thanks for all the comments on the stand everyone.

No to be more clear it will control the pumps in my saltwater trash can. I will be able to click on a graphic to turn on the pump, to pump the water in. It is not completely worked out. This is something me and another guy will be looking into.

So i finally broke down

So i finally broke down

Ok so i was not going to have another tank running while i worked on this tank. I said this mainly because i was gonna trade all my corals for a skimmer, and also i was batteling red slime and got really down on the hobby. Well i couldnt stand the wait. I was originally gonna start a freshwater tank to pass time but instead prater gave me the idea of a frag tank. So why not grow out some cheap frags while waiting on my main tank. I usedd my old 20 long tank and some eggcrate to build a two shelf frag rack. I have about 10 to 15lbs of live rock and two clumps of cheato. I also have a few snails and couple of blue leg hermits in here. For flow i used a modded maxi 400 doing 1600gph. For filtration i have a seaclone junk skimmer and a hob emporer 400 filter. I know, i know shut up and show some pictures so here....
