Tiny Haddoni

Just curious...but what's the smallest Haddoni you've seen?

Im asking because Someone near me is selling small (2 inch) haddonis and I've never seen or heard of S. Haddoni anemones that small. I asked if it was an s. tapetum but he said it was in fact a Haddons.

I saw a 2 inch blue Haddoni, once, and I bought it. But never since.

Did you say they were selling multiple small Haddonis? That sounds fishy.

I wonder if they are more or less hardy when purchased small.

He said they were red. I'm not sure how many he has but there are more than one. I'm skeptical as well and asked specifically which type of anemone it was.. I really want to see a pic though, as I've heard of red colored rock and maxi-mini anemones coming in lately.

Yea there have been a good number of red mini carpets with bright green mouths. They're too new to know much but everyone is pretty convinced they AREN'T Haddonis, so be careful.

I have seen 3 red 2" carpets not sure if they are haddonis but they look nothing like maxi minis...More like the larger carpets but small... I snap a couple pix but the kids erase all of my phone pix... This guy is located in WI just curious where your guy is located...

There have been several of these sold on eBay recently as mini carpets (not maxi minis). They stay under 3" and split naturally regularly per the ebay description. They are blood red with green mouths just like the pictures in the link above. The bids were reaching $60-$70. I was watching the auctions thinking about buying one.

This picture above (^^^) show a carpet with tentacles on the edge longer and pointed. Clearly not a Haddoni

This picture bellow (VVV) show an anemone with all the tentacles the same shape including the ones on the edge. IMO this is clearly a Haddoni.

I bet they're the same as those in the first pic that you posted Minh. I can see how they can easily be confused for an actual Haddoni.

Any idea on what those anemones actually are?

IMO the ones above that are not Haddoni are Maxi-Mini. That is what my S. taptum looks like other than the color

OrionN,

Thanks for posting this, it is exactly what I was trying to get at with the link.

i have a small +/- 2 inch mertins. its really neat. im hoping since its so small and has been doing super, that it has and will continue to acclimate into an almost tank raised speciman and thrive in captivity.

I originally posted the photos above, and I can tell you that in person, both anemones were stunners. But they were both very different as shown in the photos. In the top photo, you can clearly see the pointed tentacles (see the nem on the very far right). The nem in the bottom photo had tentacles that were not tightly clustered together.

I'm glad that these threads keeps popping up, since I feel that it is very important to spread the knowledge that we've acquired. I don't think dealers are misleading buyers on purpose, but it's important to clarify that the red nems with the green mouths ARE NOT haddoni, and should not be sold as such (and should not command the price tag of a red haddoni). I think mini-carpet is an appropriate term since there isn't confirmation that it is a mini-maxi, though the pointed outer tentacles cause me to think that these are S. tapetum or a close relative. I can also tell you that the selling price here in CA is about $50-$75.

Regardless, I'm glad that these are available, since I think they are a great addition to our reef tanks. From what I hear, they split regularly and are easy to care for.

D-Nak, thanks for posting. I agree 100% with the second two paragraphs. These anemones should be looked at and talked about, especially because proper ID is necessary.

And I don't think anyone is intentionally misleading their customers.

I got one of these green-mouthed guys about 2 weeks ago also. I thought I'd post a pic or 2 for the good of the cause. I placed it close to a 3-4 inch Maxi Mini for comparison. It currently measures 1.5 inches and is eating well.

At night is when I see the biggest difference between the two anemones.
