Toofrigginswt's Custom 125 Gallon Tank Build

Another coral shipment. The first batch that was sent had a lot of casualties due to it being a super hot day in Sacramento. I don't think having a heat pad in the box helped the situation at all. The seller sent me a replacement shipment of all the ones that didn't make it plus a bunch of extras!

A few of the bags have copepods running around in them lol.

FTS please =)

FTS please =)

Not much going on and I am not too happy with how my tank and color looks right now which is why I haven't posted a FTS. I think I'm running too much GFO which is stripping the tank of Phosphate way too much. I'm going to turn off my gfo reactor for a couple weeks and see how that works. Then hopefully I'll have a new FTS by then.

Also, I re-quascaped the tank and lowered the rockwork even more to accommodate all the new corals and have better flow.

I am worried about my shipment too. I ordered 14 sps corals from ORA that is suppose to arrive tomorrow and it just keep getting hotter in our area.

Good luck with your shipment. Hopefully everything makes it. Just remember to acclimate them well since the corals will be in a pitch black box for over 24 hours. Plus most vendors have a DOA Guarantee policy which makes it easy and reassuring to buy corals online. But still, it's very disappointing when you've anxiously wait for the corals and they don't make it past a few hours from receiving.

I had it shipped to my work so that I can be there to sign for it. Then I requested the rest of the day off just to acclimate the corals. It's acclimating right now as we speak (or type).

That's really cool that the seller replaced the dead coral and hooked you up with extras! You will have to give me the name of the seller next time I see you.

Jonathan, there is a tank featured in a blog site that uses acrylic panels to cover the stand. I am not sure if I am allowed to link it so you might have to search for it. I am considering using acrylic panels with magnets superglued to it to cover my steel stands AND canopies. My only concern is the 400watt halides melting the acrylic. I do have a fan on it and the canopy is not fully enclosed. Still trying to source it from tap plastics but I think it will be pricey. It looked really slick and modern. It's 360 gallon reef by bryn Roberts. Hopefully I will have funds soon. My wife wants an outdoor patio set and outdoor kitchen now. I just got her a new dining set. My play money is getting tighter......

I found it. All I have to say is that the stand looks really nice! It's like a white piano finish, which is the exact look I wanted. Too bad acrylic was just way too expensive. I should have my skins finished this Sunday so I'll post it once that's done.

FYI, tap plastics quoted me $600+ for the acrylic pieces that I wanted :eek2: Your tank will probably cost more! So once again, I went a different route.

In regards to the acrylic with your metal halide, that's something that I'd worry about as well. I have an acrylic overflow lid cover and that thing gets warped within 3 days (I have to keep flipping it). It's directly under my T-5's which don't get nearly as hot as MH.

Arggghh... Wish I would have known that sooner, I am using mdf panels sprayed with durapoxy gloss white. Hopefully it turns out okay. It's been delayed and I should have them done Tuesday now, not Sunday.

Yes it got painted. But I had a bug that flew on top of the panels and when I wiped it off, the bug's blood smeared into the paint :headwalls: So it's getting redone. Hopefully it should be finished tonight.

So here's another update. I had a black hairy crab that was munching on my sps. I think it came on one of the first few wild colonies I added. I literally destroyed my aquascape just to get that guy out. After about an hour or so, I finally got that little sucker out.

I tried to put my rock work back to the way it was but couldn't. So this was what I ended up with. Let me know what you guys think.

I've removed but also added quite a few pieces to the livestock since the last update.

Ahhh yes those hairy little suckers are just my nightmare.
I dip my coral, observe all colonies well upside down and inside out...then break my back positioning them into my scape.
Two days later,,,,the hairy guy pops out and sits on the Acro as if it's throne.
They are bad for the colony...and mercilessly eat SPS. I hate them and I kill them if I find them. Sorry crab police!!
