Tropic Marine BIO-ACTIF Salt?

I like to mix up a large container of saltwater and use it as needed. It usually takes me about a month to go through it. What are your recommendations for storing Bio-Actif after it has been mixed? Do I need to be concerned about these organics breaking down or bacterial blooms in my mixing container? Also, do I need to be concerned with stratification of the dry mix or does it remain homogeneous in the bucket. I only mix up 32 gallons at a time and it seems most places only carry the buckets.

In mixed up saltwater stored for longer than a few days bacteria may break down the organic substances but I think they will not form a bacterial bloom. The organic substances and/or the bacteria will form a slimy coating in the container.

In the past it seemed like we had some moderate problems with stratification during transportation, so that especially magnesium was not 100% evenly distributed in the bucket. I think the BIO-ACTIF salt is not more prone to this kind of stratification than our other salts. In the tank it will level out.

Finally all this doesn´t matter. We tried something and it did work

I don't dispute that. I was just putting the written claims and comments into perspective. :)

I second that! Best salt I've used Hans-down!

I switched from IO after 25yrs.
I do not have do adjust anything with this salt ,I only drip settled Kalkwasser now to keep my parameters in check.
I'm sure the supply will become more widespread soon.....but just in case ,I just ordered 1 more bucket.
Thanks,
Hans

Thank you for your response Hans. Are there retailers carrying the 4kg size mix in the States yet? I prefer to use the whole package instead of scooping out of a bucket and I don't want to worry about moisture.

Ok, Randy, so maybe let´s just wait and see if the addition of natural organic substances to reef tanks is a success and whether someone gets more curious how they interact with the artificial and natural environment.
In the last years since I have discovered the surprising effects of these substances I tried to find out more on DOC in marine waters and had to recognize that the knowledges about this huge carbon reservoir are still very poor.
I find it quite amazing that we have an application related to the environment before we know the exact nature and mode of action of these substances.

Can anyone else confirm the Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium numbers they are getting with this salt?

I just ordered a box from Premium Aquatics. I do two four gallon water changes per week on my 55 one on Sunday and another on Thursday with TM Pro Reef. My tank is lightly stocked mixed reef, I can't wait to try this salt out for myself. Does anyone know what the Mag, Cal and Alk levels are when mixed to 1.026 ?

The calcium and magnesium levels are like you know it from the PRO-REEF, calcium ca. 440 ppm, magnesium ca. 1350 ppm, the alkalinity and pH are slightly elevated in comparision to the PRO-REEF, 8° KH and pH 8.4.
smsreefer has found similar levels and posted them on page 1 of this thread.

My tank has never looked better. I notice my leathers are opening up nice and big. I really like it. Going to buy the next bucket soon.

well I can't wait, mine should be here saturday or maybe monday at the latest, guess i'm gonna hold off on my water change a few extra days until it gets here, I've been using IO for 4 years, so this should be a good test.

Sorry, I guess linking to the review is not allowed. Google it, it's the 2nd or 3rd hit and says Salt Review.

found it thanks...once again can't wait to try it for myself and report back the results, especially since recently I've been having some algae problems i'm hoping this salt could help out

Las gracias de Raúl por el acoplamiento era muy educativo y enlighting a lo que he experimentado ya durante los últimos dos meses usando TM Bio-Atiff.:wavehand:

Thanks for all the info but just so I'm clear- it's ok to mix up a larger batch of Bio-Actif and use it over an extended period. May be some slime in the vat but this is of little/no consequence. Has anyone done this? Should I aerate? Realistic expiration from time of mixing?
Thanks
