tunze wavebox in action

I have a magnet holder, next week I will try to get a picture. This week, actually the next few weeks will be a bit of a challenge. I have alot of writing to finish for manuals and articles and it may take me a while.

There will be two, the one to hold any Tunze item to 1/2" glass is about $35 and the one for 3/4" is $50. They will hold anything we make- skimmers, streams, whatever. They probably won't work for Osmolators though because of magnetic interference.

I'd love to get a magnet bracket for my Turbelle, but the glass is 1/4" thick at best. (55g tank)

Yeah, be careful they are very strong and could break thin glass. You would need to carefully slide them into contact with each other rather than slam them togather- that should always be the procedure.

Back to the subject at hand, Roger, still looking at Sept/Oct for the wavebox? No chance of getting one earlier if I happen to be in Germany in mid/late July???? HHHHMMMMM???

Hi
Whwn I saw the Wave Box , it looked like the best thing ever made, but after a couple of days staring at it like a junkey, I started asking myself few question:
1.The corals in the tank looked like if they are having rough time and I mean they looked awful.
2.The dude from Tunze said it mimmics Lagoon biotop, which is not where my Acros grows.

Dont misunderstand me, I'm going to be one of the first to get a wave box, I want to test it myself, but I do have some unanswered questions at this point.

The corals did just fine and that is the closest proximation of natural flow yet. What Claude was trying to say was by having only the wavebox he was proximating a lagoon, if you add the Streams and a multicontroller you can simulate a reef. Not one single coral died which is impressive considering the tank was set up in 6 hrs and run for 4 days with pretty much brand new equipment. Not one fish got ich either.

I tested the wavebox on numerous US tanks but I haven't brought it to Aaron's yet. He works almost all the time so it is kind of hard to schedule.

I had it on display today at an LFS open house, maybe a couple folks in Austin can chime in but on a 4ft by 30" 24" deep reef ready tank the wave is 1/2" and you don't notice it with the trim in place.

It should be noted the display at Interzoo was deliberately extreme, the tank dimensions were designed to maximize the wave potentiation, the wavebox had an oversized transformer- which would only account for a very fractional difference since the pump is an inductive load and basically will only take the power it needs, it did have more juice than the production model. The tank was also rather barren with no obstacles to maximizing the flow. At Interzoo you are 1 of several hundred exhibits, the show covers 7 football fields and every pet product manufacturer in the world is there so you have to show off to get noticed. Heck, 2 years ago an Italian company had women wearing dalmation print bikinis and wrestling with dog toys in there mouths so after a few interzoos you have pretty much seen it all.

Roger:
I've read this thread from begining to end and still can't tell if it will work on a Bow front acrilic 175 gal tank with over flows at each end, that has the top completely covered except for two large openings with a center brace on top. The water is 1/2 in. from the top and the overflow openings reach 1 in. from the top.
How much room does the box need from the top to work.
Thank you very much for your answer.

You will have to lower your water level some. You will also need the magnet holder to install it. It should work but I don't own any acrylic tanks or know anyone who does and they are mostly nonexistant in Europe so I just don't have a definitive answer. I see no reason why it won't work but the wave will be about 1/2" - 3/4" so the water level will need to come down a bit and 1/2" is supposed to stick out of the tank and it does need to breathe, as water is pumped out it takes in air and quickly too, it actually generates a fair amount of suction on top. I expect before they are fully available this will be tested by some of the authors and professionals around the country and we will know for sure.
