UCSB Santa Barbara NSW Natural Sea Water...

Hey Danny,

I borrowed Bill's 150 G container and made a couple of runs.

Had a filter break last week and pumped out about 300G of water before I could get it isolated. Had to do a emergency water change. :) I wound up using Bill's 150 and 4 trashcans for one run which gave me about 350G of water.

I found a place on Ebay that sells water containers cheap. They are located in Fontana. 275G food grade container for 200 bucks.

I've got some fresh water sitting at home if some one wants to test it for Po4. I don't have a test kit for PO4.

You want to stop by and pick it up? I'll be home after 3.

I'll PM you my number as I don't have yours anymore. Lost it when I changed phones I guess.

just went there the other day to get some water for the first time, boy does it take that garden hose a long time to fill up a 55 gallon barrel, let alone 3 of them. but atleast it was nice weather out!

figure how long it takes and then take a nice walk on the beach.

it is too bad people screwed it up so they turned off the bigger pipe.

This can't help the water quality!!

This can't help the water quality!!

My boys came home from UCSB this weekend and we had a discussion about the viral nature of the internet and how things can just take off. The example they gave was UCSB's Floatopia, a beach party which exploded in popularity the last few years due to Facebook. This years event took place at the beginning of Spring quarter which basically was a beach party on Isla Vista with wall to wall party goers drinking and peeing in the ocean.

Hmmm..... maybe that's why the NSW at UCSB has been kind of funky lately!!:D

it's a big ocean and the water is collected from 1/2 mile out. i think it might be a bit diluted by the time it gets to the intake pipe. probably all taken up by plankton.

Probably, but we'll never know the ecological impact of 12000 party goers on the beach, can't be good.

FWIW, my post was tongue in cheek...I have used the water and have no issues with it. In fact, it has helped my tank rebound from its periodic "down" cycles when it was not looking too good.

Guys I got some water today and the hose was on the floor wazzz up with that common wrap it around it only takes like 5sec its not that big

I agree Danny, its a very nice resource for us and it only takes 5 seconds after you are done to wrap up the hose and keep it nice for the next person

i have been using the water since i set up my tank. i am still having PO4 problems and even when my PO4 levels are low i can't keep most acros alive.

who is using it exclusively in their successful SPS tank?

Ian is your tank still way better after switching away from the NSW?

Carl

I've stopped using it because of it's always different depending on weather and time of year. I am mixing water and am very happy with the results. For the people who have very large systems; Have you tried running gfo on the water before you use it for a wc? I don't know of any nsw sps tanks locally.

Yeah man, Ill never use that water again. Its too bad, its a great resource but just not usable in an sps tank...

Try mixing for a month or two, see the response, then decide which is better for you...
