UCSB Santa Barbara NSW Natural Sea Water...

i think it will look very nice. I talked to Ann about it right after the first day of demo and it sure sounded like a TON of work. was Andy the one who put that thing in? i can't believe that he would have poured that much concrete. overall i'm really glad that there will be a descent reef in the store (not saying anthing bad against the series of nanos that have been in there), but a nice display will surely increase buisness. best of luck at bargain network ( i know several people who started there only to quit promptly becasue they refuesed to "sell their soul"). have a great day, -

Yeah bargan is really a second job for me the bank will be my real money maker. :) yeah there must be about 100 cinder blocks and re bar plus two loads of concrete on that pond. it was just crazy to think we could get it out in a weekend. We did fill the one dumpster that we had..so we kinda had to stop anyway. Andy and another guy were the ones who built it. well see how that 240 comes allong as a display. I have had sps for over 4 years and we did have some for a while in the store but no one wanted to buy them so sorry to say the only sps you will see will be in the display and in Craigs tank. a while back i got him hooked on sps as well his tank is nice and full of sps from me and others. he has one of the nicest monti and acro collection in sb thanks to me :)

Just a little heads up for the NCSB NSW users, but yesterday was the first day of the new academic year, and campus is a little crowded. The East entrance is also STILL under construction just to add to the chaos. In addition to that someone in BIO II is moving and there are a series of large moving vans blocking the NSW access. to sum it up, i'd wait until next week unless it is urgent. have a great weekend and happy reefing -

Thanks for the heads up there Colin. I need to do a water change but I can wait. I usually go around 7 am on sat or sun morning so I don't run into a traffic problem. But if there are vans blocking the access, I'll just wait.

I went mid-day yesterday. No problem at all. Other than the fact that the hose was on the ground for the second time in a row.

Ditto here for last week's run. Hose on the ground. Love that sandy soil in my nice clean NSW.

I think that the moving crews were using it to wash their hands and equipment with, hope they realized!

i didn't see a hose on friday... looked like they took the hose off? maybe we should put together a hose for them to replace it with?

it was there at about 2 on friday when i was there, but behind a big-rig and with a large puddle under it

Haven't followed this thread in a while, but what is the consensus for collecting water at UCSB during a red tide, is it safe?

We toured the facility and asked the staff about that. Red tide should be no different than any other day for the UCSB water you get.

I've collected water after storms and after red tides and my tanks never changed. IMO it is safe anytime.

I've made about 5 trips in the last month collecting water. About 200 G each trip. The big monster is full now and I think I've fixed all of my leaks.

The only thing in the tank is my old sand which sat in a trashcan for several months but was in water, and some died rock. I did add a little LR from my holding tank. Since the tank has been running, I'm getting some brown alage at first and now some green alage growing in the tank. But it's just on the side that gets full sun most of the day. I haven't checked any prams. yet but have added some cal. I'll have to see if it all cycles and disappears.

Also after about a month of running the tank, I'm just now starting to see a little bit of skimate in the cup. So I'd say the water is pretty clean that you get from them.

But as Dave said, they run the filters 24/7 365 days and there has never been a problem with anything at their facility so you should be OK.

Funny you should say that. The week before last I was waiting for not one but 2 trucks that were filling up their bins ... they were seafood companies keeping tanks of crab and lobster alive for the holiday rush. They were nice enough to let me in to fill a few 5 gallon bottles.
