Vertex Skimmer club

Is In-80 still have vertical pump w/ higher bubble plate as Gen1?
I'm currently using ASM g1x on my 46G + 29g sump(only half full)
and w/ mesh mod, skimmer works really well but cuz it's sooo oversized,
I get dark skimmer for day or so then not much for day then it kicks in
for day on and off so I'm looking for downgrade and seeing In-80 is in
sale for 125bucks but all the picture I see on IN-80 model has vertical pump
and higher bubble trap.
Would i be better to get In-80 over asm g1x? (i'll be only paying 20ish
for new skimmer since i'll be selling ASM) to get constant skimming?
and is there big difference between IN-80 and IN-100
Thanks

I was planning on putting my IN-180 in a 29g for a sump, because i already had it, but I found out that is not the greatest idea. The tank is tall enough so that the drain on the cup is not usable and it seems like removing the cup is going to be a major pain. So to anyone thinking of buying an IN180 don't try to use an AGA 29 as a sump it will not work unless you can raise it up somehow. I can't otherwise it wont fit in my stand.

Not sure yet. If you can raise the skimmer up a couple inches you should be able to use the cup drain.

If not, maybe a 40 breeder would work for you under your 90. Measure the inside of your stand and compare to the tank dimentions 36" x 18" x 16".

For me, its looking like i'm going to have to build a new stand or cut a hole in the bottom of my current one.

I just started up my new tank, and went with an ALPHA250. I went with it because i saw it working on a reef buddies tank and it's working awesome. But I'm getting an insane amount of very small micro bubbles , from everything i've heard this thing doesn't micro bubble. Any possible cause? Or is it just the new water?

well i couldnt take it. i had to order a gen 2 in-180. lol. i had a gen 1 in-180 but had to see the difference between them. wow. this thing is 10 times better. and i thought the gen 1 was awesome. it uses more of the skimmer body. on the gen 1the buble chamber was alot taller and the input entered at the very top so only the top half of the bubble chamber was full of bubbles. basically the bottom 4-5 inches of the skimmer was clear. on the gen 2 the bubble chamber is shorter and the input is lower so the entire chamber is full of bubbles. only the small space around the bubble chamber about 3 inches up is clear. the input goes in on an angle and swirls in the bubble chamber rather than straight in. turbulance is reduced therefore a more stable foam head. and i think that the bubble chamber is wider as well. no more 90 coming off of the pump, so a little bit more air flow. i love it.

Now how do I explain to my wife I want to replace my Gen1 IN-100 with the Gen2

oh great way to go jck, now that don't help me none now i want to get the gen II model. How much bigger is foot print on new models anyway.

well oldreefer i'm gonna tell wife that i'm gonna move older vertex 180 into 75 gallon tank and get new one for 125 gallon tank and sell my euroreef skimmer to almost make up cost of new one. Don't think it will work but gonna try.

lol. only way i convinced mine was to sell some of the "unused" equipment in my basement. plus i told her she could buy her mini horse shes been trying to convince me to get.

i dont notice the footprint being any bigger. if it is its not much. only thing that suck is i have to fiddle with it again to find the sweet spot. lol.

how many more inches of reaction time do you have in skimmer body now for bubbles compared to old style.

or how much lowere is bubble plate compared to older version.
