Sorry for the blurry photos. It's a pretty nice piece that I've had for a couple of months now but the polylps are still brown.

It gets about 400 PAR so the middle is pretty white.

If you didn't get it from Tyree or from a direct descendant that can trace the lineage back, then no, it is not Tyree Ice Fire.

Over 200 views and just one response. Booo!

I was told its a Tyree but I'm looking for some validation from someone who has one and knows what they look like. I don't want to sell frags of it in the future mislabling it. The thing that made me question its authenticy is the brown polyps. Not sure if the Tyree has brown polyps.

Mine does not look like that, but they can look different under different conditions. This is why the lineage matters since they don't always look the same. Mine has blue polyps and the tips pop more, but that could just be a photo thing. Without the paperwork just sell it as generic Blue/White Enchinada.

Personally, I won't buy anything LE or with a name unless somebody can show me an invoice or email... or from somebody that I really trust who has provided lineage before.

This is just me talking, and I did not even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but more than 90% of the LE corals sold are a wild somewhat-close equivalent. As such, I would put less than a 10% chance your coral can be traced back to Tyree. Ask your seller if there is any lineage of where they got it - this is the only way to know. ...if they say "the person who sold it to me said that it was from Tyree," then you know that it is not real IMO.

If I had to guess I would say it isn't the actual Aquascene ice fire. The branches seem to be different from the original and the color is slightly off. My old Aquascene is in my avatar and it was such a nice one and I'm glad I was able to get it back so many years later.

The structure is different, but it looks VERY NICE nethertheless, hence I want to see an updated photo. :)

^^for sure yours is nice!! I was just saying that it does look different. Ill try kt find some pictures of my old colony. I lost mine a few years back but was able to get a few frags out to friends and they gave me a frag.

I'd say the structure looks different as well. It looks like one of the many many wild specimens that have come into the trade in recent years and been labeled as "Icefire".

Post up a photo of your colony if you can! Would love to see it.

Out of interest, where did the original "ice fire" come from?. I mean, where did the original Vendor get it from?….

I think the OP's coral could be the original. It is extremely variable in growth form depending on flow, lighting, and the original shape of the starting frag. The color scheme looks right. Aquascene/Tyree Icefire does have brownish polyps.

Here's my biggest colony. It went through some rough times in the tank for the past couple of years, but is bouncing back and looks like its going to have a growth spurt now that I got things in line again. Possibly my favorite acro of all time, and extremely hardy once established.

Wow Tim, that thing is huge now! Great job!

Thanks, Dan! That puppy has been through a lot.

Got a frag of the Ultimate efflo back from a local friend and it is coloring up and showing new purple encrustation growth and popping purple tips already. It went dormant in his tank for 2 years!

FWIW I grew that icefire colony from this frag from purplereef 4 years ago:

Thanks guys!

I have 2 other mini colonies started from that one now, don't plan on fragging it again for the foreseeable future. I want to see a BIG tank grown echinata for once! The colony is only about 6"x6" now, but has plenty of room to grow.
