I have too many threads on A. thiellei to keep up with what is posted where. So, I figured I'd create just one more so I can keep everything in the same place.

Getting up to speed:
#1. Added 5/2008

#2. Added 7/2009

#3. Added 3/2011

All were about the same size when I got them but the first two have grown significantly. I'd venture to say they exceed the max length of Dr. Burgess' original description (65mm) by about 30%.
This is a size reference.

My current project is a Philippine Islands regional biotope tank. I'm looking at doing a 180-220 gallon peninsula display. The custom stand is in production and the mechanical components are already purchased.
Based on my highly scientific crackpot research, I believe the most likely natural host would be S. mertensii. However, for the sake of ease (and multiple other reasons) I plan to use E. quadricolor.

Even if I could find one the chances of me keeping it alive for any length of time would be slim to none. I might try a captive cloned mag at some point but no time soon.

I thought about pulling the trigger on that thiellei a couple weeks ago when I saw it. Glad to see it went to a much more thielli experienced person. Do they require more care than other species?

The RBTAs have been looking a little rough. I added an egg crate top and the reduction in light appears to have been the right move. All the GBTAs were looking a bit rough and have been recovering from a melting of caulerpa. The event caused them to bleach and shrink. They have been slowly recovering. Some are back 100% but others are just now starting to come back out and expand.

Came back from the cruise to them looking a little dark. IDK what that's about. My brother fed them Rod's food per my instructions. All three (one separate) appear healthy.

Added a Euroreef CS12-2 skimmer last night after cleaning a filthy tank. Will likely add water that was removed last night during cleaning. I think the skimmer alone holds 30 gallons. Did not see any spawning evidence or behavior. Who knows what a cleaner system will do.
The bleached anemones have continued to improve....

i love that you are trying a trio of them. i know the reason why your not trying a Mertens carpet, but why did you pic bta's over a mag carpet for them? not knocking you, just curious.
also, has there been any documented breeding of these?

I picked BTAs for really simple reasons and please remember that I'm talking about anemones. They're cheap, they're easy, they're plentiful and they multiply.

Came home yesterday to an extremely warm basement. Adding a skimmer the night before an 85 plus degree day is only OK if you have a chiller. I have had a system crash and a couple near misses from Maryland weather shifting suddenly in April. Cold day... cold day... cold day... WHAM! 85 degrees. I'm being conservative. My car said 89 on the way home.

I took a day off work and bought the chiller around this time last year on a day just like yesterday. Had I not, those two fish would have been snot.



I'm playing around with flow rates and configurations on the skimmer.

Yep, tank got pretty warm here yesterday too. I had to turn the fan on for the first time in months. Cool weather today. :thumbsup:

Thanks! The first with a LFS, the second with an online retailer and the third from another hobbyist but most important to point out is that the first was found by chance and the other two were a result of extensive networking. There are some really cool people out there.
