Walt's Official A. thiellei Page

Pretty cool :)

I would finish the treatment with antibiotics and hold off Prazi for now. Prazi might decrease his appetite. Find Nutramar Ova, if you can.

Given what I came home to, I was thinking the same thing. He took another peck at a pellet too but I think its the texture he doesn't like. Ill keep working with small amounts of cyclopeeze. For now and maybe start a batch of BBS.

Possibly try the Formula 1 & 2 pellets (Small size)? They're actually soft and moist.

I've observed that my fish in QT were more likely to start eating those pellets than the Spectrum Thera pellets. Once they begin eating the Formula pellets, I can wean them to the Spectrum pellets... but initially, I've observed them eating Forumla pellets first and preferentially over the Spectrum.

Regardless, I'm glad to see things are improving.

Good luck.

Nick

Thanks, I think I recall using those pellets before but don't recall anything remarkable about the texture. I may pick them up if there is a sample portion....

He ate a little better today. I started a batch of BBS too. I will be picking up some prazi pro because I'm seeing stuff hanging out of the female ocellaris now too. It may just wait a few more days so he can regain his strength.
These are from today. One shows how much muscle loss he has sustained. The other is just a general shot. Either way, his vent looks better and he's finally eating something.

Of his eating keeps improving I'd hold off on any more meds unless you see something. After he's put some weight back on I would do praziquantel. BBS and cyclopeeze have done very well for me getting fish to eat.

Either way I'm going to finish the antibiotic cycle and re-evaluate. I just want to have it on hand.

Walt, I've soaked NLS pellets in water with mysis or cyclopeeze for about 3 minutes, then feed the whole container to get a fish to eat. I think the soaking helped the pellets soften the pellets and made it easier for the fish to eat. I used this on dispar anthias to get them to wean them to pellets.

Summary of recent events:

Summary of recent events:

I'm pleased to report that after Hypo-Salinity, a few baths of Coppersafe and a completed a cycle of Maracyn Prime (broad spectrum antibiotic), A. thiellei #4 is making great strides. He is now eating cyclopeeze, ate a Spectrum Thera +A pellet yesterday without spitting it back out and the thing/stuff hanging out of his vent has disappeared or healed up. He's a bit emaciated, but looks like he'll make a full recovery. He will be in quarrantine at least through the month of March and may get a dose of praziquantanel at some point (after being fattened back up) but I should be able to begin the pairing process with him and thiellei #3 in April.

I got back from four days on the NC coast to find him emaciated worse than I remembered. It may have been a failure of my house sitters to follow my instructions on how to saturation feed my fish but I errored on the side of caution and eliminated a factor by dosing Prazipro. A week later he is looking much better and eats like a champ.

Here's a little preview of what I think will be a long, healthy life for this #4 (I'm yet to give him a name.)

He looks smaller in person but just for gits and shiggles, here's Penelope, the female of my established pair.

I'm glad he seems to be improving; I'll keep my fingers crossed for your success. I never used to be into skunk-complex clowns, but after acquiring a pair of nigripes I have a whole new appreciation for their beauty.

Brought thiellei #3 (female) home late last night. She met #4 (male) this morning. I think I might name #3 "Pandora" because I never know what to expect out of her. She's still fiesty as ever.
They will remain separated but in full view of one another for at least a week.

what a journey your taking with these fish! good luck to you.
I have had a similar issue with a pair of WC adult Latz with the female had her anus very swollen and her stomach was swollen as well. she was so swollen that her scales were sticking out like a porcupine. i dosed her with maracyn plus and it healed her fine for me after a few days.
i had to dose her twice cause a few weeks later she was swollen again.
a friend who is very good with fish and diseases mentioned it might be a kidney infection with my issues.

In addition to being able to see one another, I also have added a silicone tube to the tanks like a syphon. This keeps the water level at the same height but the real reason for doing this is for them to be able to hear each other. When the female clicks, he can hear it. I think this is an important factor in establishing dominance.
