Wanna be Mini ocean....

Ty kyrin. I have a ball valve coming out of the bulkhead underneath. No lr will be sitting on the pipe. It's 1 inch pvc pipe. The last owners of the tank did the samething. The tank ran for 2.5 yrs with no problem.

Today I decided to build an overflow. I'm just going to use one piece sheet of acrylic. Its going to be a triangle once I place the sheet of acrylic in the coroners. While I was out picked up all the materials for making the overflow.

Are there any patterns online to make the teeth for overflow? Like how long the teeth and the gaps between the teeth?

I'm thinking of doing a weir overflow instead of making teeth. Do weir type overflows work better than having teeth?

I think i'm going to buy RO/DI unit since i i'm tired of going out and buy the water. Save gas and money. Looking at a SpectraPure® MaxCap RO/DI System, 90gpd w/ Pressure Gauge & Purity Monitor.

Tonight i started and finish making and installing the weir overflows. If the water does not get stable to the level i want. i'll crave some teeth using a dremel tool into the flow like i tired in the last pics.

One more day till the big move into the new apartment. Everything on the tank is ready to go. Once moved in the apartment i'll do a fresh water test to see if everything is good to go. Wish me luck.

Yesterday i moved the tank. Today i did water tested which it passed. Now i just did a mock power lose which it also passed. Added the sand and now letting the sand to settle.

Here is a pick after haning the lights last night.

ok i made a mistake today. With my head still not catching up to me from moving. I forgot to wash the new sand before i placed it into the tank. Is there anything I can do to get the sand to settle?

Yes, there is. Wait or run some type of mechanical filter that will trap all the floating particulate.

As a few other have noted, those drains may make one heck of a gurgle if there are no vents in the top to allow trapped air to escape.

would a filter sock work?

hey jbray so far no gurgling since i change the angle of the vents. I dont know how i got lucky..lol

OHH man !!
Gnarly! looks deep, but i can relate,
tank looks good though, i wish my 125 was drilled however, i have a U-tube siphon over flow, and i hate it takes too much constant adjustment

good luck

thanks metal. Hey i will have a cpr overflow for sale with the pump by next week. I know it can handle a 125g. I just need to see if its cs90 or cs100. My old tank is still running at my friends house till my new tank is ready to go.

Finally the sandstorm is not so bad after a 4 days and got the skimmer dial in i can take some pics of the pillars/arches in their place.

Man do we ever miss that tank! I will be following this thread for sure.
FWIW, we had that skimmer from day one and our nitrates were below 5 (other than when we had a different issue that caused a spike). You should not have any problems with it at all. Also, your stand pipes look great. Almost identical to how we had it. I would definitely put the slip screens on them to avoid fish going in. Leaving the top pipes not glued is exactly how we had it and it worked great for adjusting water levels when needed. Only one thing I would recommend doing. On the bottom where the pipe goes from the drain hole to the stand pipe I would put a chunk of acrylic for support. If you have a lot of live rock built up around those pipes like we did it is a lot of weight on the pipes that could potentially break them. Wish I had a picture to show you what I mean. It's just added support for the stand pipes. If you still have our number you can call if you have a question about that or just send a pm.
Sump is looking great. Can't wait to see the tank stocked and beautiful again.

auntdeb it just took me some time to dail it in. Once i got the skimmer going it only took a couple of hrs to be almost cleared up like it is in the pic. Also if you look on page two of this thread i put in clear overflow so you cant ready see them in the tank. :)

This saturday i'll be putting everything in from my old tank in on saturday morning. PLus i'll make sure i wont let any of the rock work lean on the glass or overflow.

Today took another pic of the tank since the water is 95% cleared up. Started to decorating around the tank since i been doing most of the apartment this week. The tank is the main center piece of the apartment. Most of the apartment is decorated in ocean. The other my next toy came in the mail. A SpectraPure MaxCap RO/DI System, 90gpd. No more trips to the water store! WWWoohhhoo!!
