Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

I'm curious what you're using for the light rack ?

I'm just bought a couple of Sols and I know a lot of people say that they legs on the AI stand are kind of wimpy. You had them for a while what did you think ?

Great results !

80/20 15 series square extrusions.

The legs are fine. Never had an issue.

Thanks

Mark, nice tank. I am currently getting ready to set up the same tank, wanted to ask a question. I will mainly have sps do you feel like the mp10 are sufficient in the 60 or should I get a pair of mp40

The MP10's are fine. If you let your tank fill in like I did you will need something else after a few years to get water through the branches.

Great build! Good colors.

Not too many issues keeping the Yellow Tang in the 60g?

Thanks. No issues yet on the yellow tang. If I were not building a 120 he would be trapped and rehomed soon. He is about as big as I would want in this tank.

Yeah I noticed he was a lil guy in his first pic. Took him about a year or two to grow out?

I asked because I will likely upgrade to a 60g cube or so, and would likely keep a YT and rehouse him with a local club member when he starts outgrowing the tank

Two year progress

That's an admirable and quite amazing transformation, over two years.
The up grade will really give your corals room to get huge.

When I was a kid, I used to love a product called magic rocks. You'd add these colored crystals to a container with some provided liquid and in a couple days, you'd have all of these colored stalagtites growing up towards the surface.
Your 2 year progression looks exactly like what would happen in 2 days with magic rocks..
The magic rocks were a wee bit easier to grow, however.

I'm sure it's one of the reasons I fell in love with this hobby..
It's always so amazing and rewarding to look at the outcome..... A bit more rewarding with a reef, than with the magic rocks, though.
Very nice job.

Thanks. My goal with the new tank is to let things get big. I have a few things in the frag tank to add and some things from the tank will get removed.

When battling past Aiptasia issues it has been hit an miss with solutions

1. Berghia Nudibranch make sure you turn off circulation pumps and run the return at a minimum, you want a slow lagoon flow in the tank. They are very poor swimmers

2. Peppermint Shrimp buy more than you think you will need ( for your tank I would buy at least 10) as it is hit and miss and there is only 1 breed of Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata Boggessi) that will eat Aiptasia and they are collected from the Gulf of Mexico. Some LFSs are not knowledgeable about Peppermint Shrimp and might sell you Camel Shrimp that will not eat Aiptasia

3. Copperband Butterfly Fish They can also be hit and miss, my latest Aiptasia problem was solved by a 5" CCB, It got rid of them almost overnight and it is very active always searching for more in the liverock, I have some Aiptasia in the overflow but not concerned due to the CCB

I have had most luck with the Berghias and CCB

Keep food to a minimum with peppermint shrimp as well. I know you have anthias, but you want to feed the fish, not the shrimp. Keep them hungry and you'll get the best results from them.

Over a year ago my system got an extream infestation of Aiptasia and tried most creiters and nothing helped. I tried CCB and peppermint shrimps but would eat the Aiptasia her and their, they did not help. I did not want to use Berghia Nudibranch bracuse i work long hours and travel alot, no time to keep an eye on. I removed the CCB and peppermint shrimps and returned them to LFS. So I tried a File fish and to my surprise the File fish although wiered looking has eaten all the Aiptasia and keeps them in check. I know Aiptasia is present in my system dince I see them in the overflow but my system is clean thanks to the File Fish.

The last batch of peppermints just about got them. Unfortunately I no longer have any anthias. They all died.

+1

Before I did my revamp of tank, I had this little file fish and it cleaned my Aiptasia after I starved it for a few days.
During the revamp even with new marco rocks, some Aiptasia came back. So I control the feeding only at the surface of the water for Anthias and starve the file fish which is always at the bottom. Now I have no Aiptasia in sight. I love that fish.

Mark how are you liking the Gyre? I assume it's an XF130 right? I have a 60 cube and have thought about adding one. Flow with my MP40 still has a lot of dead spots and I can assume a Gyre will perform really well in a cube.
