Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

Mark how are you liking the Gyre? I assume it's an XF130 right? I have a 60 cube and have thought about adding one. Flow with my MP40 still has a lot of dead spots and I can assume a Gyre will perform really well in a cube.

I like it. Run it at 4 dots right now. It really helps to get things moving.

Tank looks amazing! Congrats on the ROTM award! Well deserved!
Will you ever go back to halides? What's your plan on the 120?
Thanks. Probably not going back on to Mh. Hate to say never just since the future is hard to predict. I have been real happy with LED and not having to fight the temp is a real plus. For the 120 I am going to use 4 Hydra52s. Two will be from the 60 and the other 2 I picked up lightly used. I made a light rack with 80/20 pieces and some channel. It should be better than the off the shelf options.

Here is the light rack for the 120.

I really think the trick with LED's is nearly doubling the amount of fixtures the manufacturer suggests. I have the same tank but 30 inches deep, 150 tall. I was advised by AI to get 2 fixtures and hang them 12 inches off the surface. I really should have done 3 or 4. I run my settings almost exactly like what you run whites/green/red at 34-40 ish, blues/violet/UV at 90-95 and I don't have near the growth, but the corals and fish are happy. I'd like to either add more fixtures in the future or add T-5's to help with shadows and overall coverage.

Not sure you have to double the fixture, but you definitely need more than what the manufactures recommend. I got a good deal on the two used ones so I opted for 4.

Agree, I'll more than likely look for 2 used 52's and run 1 fixture every foot on my 4 foot tank.

Yes and don't forget to run them lower because you have more which I learned and just recently dropped % down to 35 max at a little less than 12k which apex shows . I have 6 hydra 52 (none hd) over the a 5' tank and 4 t5 and tried to keep up with Wazzel's % which I really ran 60% and still was cooking sps. They were growing away from the light also. Leds are very strong and sps adapt so start low.

The teardown starts Friday. Prep work will start Thursday, making water, moving the frag tank in for transfer, etc.....

Hey Mark,

Good luck with transferring your SPS to their new digs. It is a lot of work, but quite rewarding in the long run. I run my diy LED's at fairly low power and the acros do just fine......................Jim

What kind of par are you getting? I'm just curios what you maybe getting at the sand bed and how deep is the tank and how high the lights are. I'm sure a lot has to do with pick something and stick with it but always curious of other people's lights and how hard they run them.

Awesome,
Looking forward to closing down this thread, and for the best news I have heard, the 120 is HERE!!!
So cool, I am really looking forward to seeing the transition :)
