Well I did it!!!

Hmm that might not have come out right, I am not saying having a huge skimmer is a bad thing.

Just to be clear,

Yeah, I am excited to see that big ol skimmer come in. Definitely gotta get a new sump to fit it that's for sure.

Well, I just ordered the RS 8-2!!!!! Now were talking!:D

Mike

How much did they get you for? I don't think that is a cheap skimmer. What percentage of your tank volume is supposed to be in your skimmer? Once it passes that, does the skimmer double as a sump?

Don't mind me, I am just jellous, very, very, jellous.

You would never believe what I paid for it....it would shock you (and I mean that in a good way).

So how do the rest of us get in on this deal? Spill it so I don't have to be jellos any more :mixed:

Sorry, PM box open now (they need some way to tell how full your box is).

Anyone else notice I spelled Jealous 2 diffrent ways, and neither were even close to right?

Ok, sent the info.

Any input on a closed loop pump? I just remembered, there is a closet behind my tank where my RO top off is stored that I can use to hold the closed loop pump!!

Mike

Are you going to use penductors or educators? Because they require a pressure pump, like iwakia (I know I spelled that wrong).

I don't know much about closed loops, but this might help zero you in for the people who do, plus it is a bump :D

My tank should be here on Friday and my skimmer will be here on Monday. I am still trying to decide on my closed loop pump, I just can't see paying so much money for the electricity. I am considering a SHE2.4 (Sweetwater High Efficiency Pump) that pumps about 70 gpm and pulls 1.9 amps. Vs the Hammerhead which pumps about 96 gpm and pulls 3.4 amps.

Hi Macnreef.

I agree with Mark about removing the mag12. Those pumps heat up the water a LOT. I highly recommend the Pan World pumps. I've got my second one coming this week to replace a noisy blueline NS1100 on my closed loop. I was so impressed with the one I purchased for my chiller return that I had to go out and get another. Quality pumps.

Nice skimmer, BTW. I'm also jealous :D

Lunchbucket:
First batch becomes available in March, I suspect that they are spoken for already. I got on the pre-order list at Christmas time and notice now that they are taking names for April.

I've heard that theres no way theryre going to make it by april. From what I hear, theres things have serious problems iwth the motors overheating and burning up.

Mag12 = 110 w 1200gph
Sequence Dart= 140 w 3600gph

Any questions?

True but the Dart or whatever would only be for a closed loop, I can't put that on my return because I don't want that much traveling through my sump. A Dart would be nice for a closed loop.

Mike

Oh, I though you wanted the mag 12 for the closed loop.

I'd still ditch the Mag12, and get an eheim or something. It will have similar flow, and pay for itself in electricity in less than a year. THe mags are hogs.

I will look into an Eheim but I don't see how it could pay for itself in under a year but if so, it would be worth it to me.

Thanks for the info.

Mike

as to how things can pay for themselves, at $.15/kw,(about average) every 10 W is going to cost you a little bit over a dollar every month. So pulling 50 watts off of a pump is going to save you 6 dollars a month. In a year, thats $72.

Also, the less energy your pumps are using, the less your chiller is running.

No chiller.:D

Currently with the lights on my tank runs 77.8 and I figure the closed loop will rise the temperature to around 79 or so depending on how much plumbing I put on the closed loop.
