What Going On in Your System Today?

I recently added a young adult Majestic angel to my refugium. I am giving him a test run in there to see if he will eat up the few zoanthids/mushrooms that are in there before adding him to the display. The plan is to try and get him addicted to frozen foods before just throwing him in blindly.

Have you removed him yet?

This is a thread which everyone can contribute to any time or day you're here. You don't need a camera, just share something.

So, what's going on in your tank today? Did you buy some new hardware, livestock, additives, gadgets, lights etc? Did you aquascape today, if so, how did it go? Are you cycling or preping for a WC, whatever, share it. Did your hubby drill you for spending the bill money? Did the wife like your new additions? Did your kid squirt dish detergent in your tank? OOPs, bad example, but you get my drift. Anything, tell us about it.

We are going on vacation Saturday morning for a week so I set up my ATO. For around 6 months I have been manually topping off and dosing. It took me maybe an hour to clean the pumps and hoses and make sure everything works. Today I am going to find the timer for my lights. I have been doing those manual as well.

Hey cool beans man, have fun.

Which ATO do you have?

Make sure it is a relaible timer my friend. I bought what I thought was a reliable timer years back and the thing worked right up until I reached my vacation destination and it died, BUMMER. I'm sure you're gonna do a few dry runs right?

Do you have someone to stop by and physically check on your system for you while you're away?

Hey thanks for sharing my friend and have a great time.

Haven't seen this post in awhile...

I just got done throwing some new GFO on my tank and getting my skimmer back online after running without a skimmer for a few months. Last night I threw a blanket over the tank to help with a cyano outbreak. I am getting ready to leave my tank for 10 days, so I want it to be in perfect shape when I leave!

I use autotopoff.com ATO. Probably every 6 months or so I have to take it out and take it apart and clean it up. It gets hard growths on it and they make it stick on if I go longer. It's been running well for a few days so I'm good there. The timer was one I used in the past and worked yesterday, and so far today it's working. We have my inlaws coming over to water flowers and feed the fish. They have done it for us for several years now so I'm confident they can handle it again.

Well I started GFO for the first time. Well I may have used to much so Tank is not very happy. Stopped for now and using WC and good husbandry to keep in line.

So for future endeavors slow and steady wins he race.

I have not had more than a Springer Damsel, fish-wish, in my 10 gallon for a long while. I have noticed a great drop-off in nitrate levels after my tank has become completely established. I decided to get something new, small and cute and ended up with this beautiful little green clown goby. Was looking for the yellow but fancied the green when I saw them. Also wound up getting a birdsnest with a fantastic green "base?" with purple polyps. Never go in with the intention of getting just one thing, yeah right ;)

My tank is pretty full capacity now. 25-30 corals in a 10G so I will need to move up since they are beginning to grow. Since this tank seems to be "done" livestock wise I guess it's time to think about another! Oh, an expensive addiction this is!

A few new tank pics. $20 "camera" phone :/ excuse the hair algae, time to reload some stuff to take care of that phosphate!

Breaking my system down and just found a rogue zoa frag in my sump. Gotta be 10 or so polyps on it. I have NO idea how long it's been there or what kind they are, but definitely has been growing. I'll followup once they open :)

Last night I cleared out some chaeto, vacuumed up a ton if detritus in my sump, and did a 10% water change.

O and I picked up some new lps frags and sold a few sps.

What's going on in everyone elses tank?

I agree kawicivic, anyone have anything to share in reference to their tank, sump, lights, hardware, updates, failures, mishaps, something you learned, .....anything?

See dino growing in my tank, been trying to siphon it out as much as possible. I heard they are extremely hard to get rid of but not impossible.

In case of dinos is water change recommended?

how do you know its dinos??

if it is dinos its incredibly hard to get rid of , but dinos is more times than not confused with cyano. because of the bubbles .

either way the treatment is similiar ,there are some extra things you can do if it is indeed cyano.

And whoever else might be able to help, I've had Dino's lately but feel they might be the result of silicates released from uncured, newly placed tiles I have used... Any thoughts?

Sps is fine, but it seems to grow across polyps and keeps them from fully opening a lot of times... It comes and goes at times... But seems to come relative to adding new tile and water changes...

Saw that the giant clam and some of the SPS in our main reef exhibit were getting pale. Found the culprit to be a busted timer. Half of the halides over our tank had been running 24/7 for days!

Today in my tank is cleaning, water change, check parameters... all that fun stuff... plus finally going to glue some frags to the rockwork that have been sitting in the sandbed for a while.

my green spotted puffer jumped out of my nano reef today. luckily i was there to put him back in. That is only the second time it has happened in 2 years. both times I have been there.
