I see this book recommended in this thread. I am in Ireland - so this book will cost me $45 US, by the time I pay for it to be shipped etc. Is it worth that?

gerry allen works over here in the museum of wa. book costs the equivalent of $12 us. im sure it could get ireland for under $45.

Yep! If you have an extra 4000.00 laying around my vote is for the peppermint angel! Imagine the toilet flushing 4 grand if it dies!!:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

PS- You would have to have a coffin and burial service with a pewter memorial for that one!! :lol:

No offense intended, but in general it seems like this is a competition for the most garish angel. After researching all the (affordable) options, my partner and I chose a Koran angel for our new 180. We love the adult coloration. We based our decision on how much time we would spend watching an available specimen of each species at a fish shop. We appreciated the subtle but beautiful colors of the fully transformed Koran, along with the balanced body shape with streamers top and bottom, and the personality they seemed to display. We bought a 3" juvi and love it.

but then, last weekend I saw for the first time a grey poma - another angel with more subtle coloration, and it blew me away. Oh well. Time for another tank.

I dont think it's a competition for a garish angel. Some people have different tastes. My favorite angel is the Regal, i gave up a Majestic and an Emperor to keep her. A $4000 dollar fish is way out of my price range but what the heck if someone has the money and wants one more power to them. I for one set limits on the amount i would spend on any livestock purchase. All the angels are beautiful, its just a matter of taste.

I have to agree, all angels are exceptionally beautiful, even for reef fish. I just felt the need to point out that some of them with more subdued color, which weren't being mentioned as often, can be gorgeous as well. I was happy to see that the french and gray angels were listed as someone's pick along the way.

How about he "reef-safe" Genicanthus angels? I've never seen one in person and no one mentioned them, I don't think. Do they rate with the other angels?

Mike i don't get it are we talking salt water fish?

I know many fresh water fish that are subdued color and they are gorgeous as well.

but i got on the salt water hobby because the bright colors of the fish.

Ja Ja, I mean marine. It's just a relative thing. Like a gray angel. Even though it doesn't glow in the actinics, the patterns, subtle shading, and of course grace and presence are stunning.
