What's your 'must have' fish?

Well, with all the years I've been in the hobby I've always loved regal angels and have had a trio in my display for a while now...

Shots of my current display with flash under actinics only...

A shot of my old system taken by a friend...

However, if I could pluck and have any fish out of the ocean, it would have to be a xanthic form yellow/white regal from the Maldives...:)

Is it just me, or is that a Moorish Idol in the top right of your first picture??........

I have three fish I wouldnt part with, heres my True perc pair,

Yeap... though he's since been yanked for attempting to chow down on one of my prized millis... not the picking I put up with like I see from some angels... but chowing... independent of what he's been fed...

Here's some more shots of him...

2 pairs of these would be the ultimate for me, but like achillesheel said, they cost some bucks. $5000 a piece

Centropyge Boylei:

just can't get any better than these. Would be nice to have these and a pair of those gold and white regals.

The nice thing is that these Centropyge will be available captive bred not just in our lifetime, hopefully soon... Frank Baensch of www.rcthawaii.com is making history and always working on new species... I had the chance to meet with him last year at his facility overlooking Diamondhead on Oahu... This man is a pioneer in the hobby... (he's the tall German... I'm the short Italian...)

He's already bred Centropyge multifasciatus (the most closely related possibly to C. boylei, both in the Paracentropyge subgenus)... Recently gone public is his successful breeding of C. debelius, another multithousand dollar angel... check out these little guys!

I've also always loved the St. Paul's Rocks variants of H. ciliaris (queen angel) off the coast of Brazil...

Mine is a Female Bellus Angel. I'm setting up a new 225 and that will be the feature fish!

You should get a pair. :D

It's interesting that with the Bellus, the male is yellow while the female is blue/black stripes. I have a beautiful female right now, nice bright orange in the upper and lower fins. I'm looking for a male for her now. ;)

Most of the Swallow tail angels male and females have the same base color. It seems that only the Bellus has the difference.

Copps....how long have you had the Moorish Idol? Thanks guys for the info. Much of it I have read, and I to have seen those that eat at first, then stop suddenly. I have been working on a source for the sponge they feed on, so providing one with food wouldn't break my budget. I wish I lived closer to the coast, so I could harvest my own, but in MN that would be a little bit further than I would want to drive!

loralie the idol I had fed very well and I conditioned, quarantined, and got settled before placing it in the display. I had it for maybe 9 months before having to yank it from my sps display... He was an unbelievably strong feeder and in the photos above you could see him near the turkey baster... I'm soon setting up a fish only where I plan on trying a group... Many of the traditionally tough (and some that were once considered "should be left in the ocean") species are being kept on a regular basis with the same set of principles, and without derailing the thread these include providing a stressfree environment free of competition and harassment in order to calm the new specimen and get them feeding... Too many people use what I call the "dump and hope" approach, buying a specimen and throwing in their display tank right away expecting it to outcompete established fish while at the same time getting an *** beating... Many people think quarantine is to keep foreign disease from your display... while that is a reason that is on the bottom of my list for importance... and if quarantine consists of a 20 gallon with a sponge filter and an airstone these delicate species will have little chance...

OMG these are some fantastically beautiful fish guys. I love angels, I can't believe how gorgeous all the fish in your pics are!

Kahuna Tuna -- I know what you mean about not giving up your flagfin, I love mine to bits even though he's a twerp (chewing on my Xenia, for instance) on occasion :)

EDIT--> here's my little monkey, along with some of his handiwork

ACBlinky- Awesome little flagfin you have there! I'm guessing that is a sub adult fish, I would love to find one of those and see if I can pair it with my larger fish. Do you keep other corals and is the flagfin sampling anything else? These are just great fish if you can get one that is eating, very quickly becoming my favorite all time fish.

I work at my lfs and ive been looking for a pair of black onyx clowns for my 10g. This next weekend im going down with the boss to get a crap load of fish for the store at the fish farm and to see if they have the clowns. The last three times ive been down there they havent had them.=(
