Who??

Who can close a thread like "Radion LEDs lost over 60% PAR in 2 yrs!".
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2388439

I tried to see if I could close my threads that I have started and couldn't figure out how so I am assuming an admin for RC?

Are you the one who started the thread? The first post seems to be from a RC user with the username "JPMagyar"

Either way, if you started the thread, you would have to request it to be closed by an RC Admin. But it seems like the thread has a lot of information about LED lighting etc... so they may not close it.

I don't want to close anything or reopen it. I am just wondering how it got closed and was wondering who has the authority to close a thread. I was really looking forward to seeing more on this thread then it just stopped getting updated. I tried to add a comment last night and got the message it was closed so now I know why. They were saying it was going to get shut down by an admin and was curious to know if that's what happened.

Either way BOOOOOOOOO!

Booooo!! I posted that link on FB not to along ago. Had a feeling it was going to get shut down

not a good reason, but I think its because its these folks: http://www.reefcentral.com/index.php/sponsors/

Yeah, that was kinda my insinuated guess there. I remember a lot of claims of this sort (major favoritism) were going around during the introduction of the Jebao, which of course were vehemently denied. Watching that thread, man....it sure makes it hard to argue against the idea that there's something to those claims.

Maybe, unbeknownst to us, the OP of that thread is a wholesaler circumventing forum rules for their own benefit. ;)

Agreed which really sucks. Thought this forum was for the benefit of the users smh.

It's unfortunate but to play Devil's Advocate for a sec....let's say it is true. It really wouldn't be THAT surprising, the Corvette forum I sporadically participate in is well known for having let advertisers/sponsors kinda carpet bomb the forums for the last several years leading to a measured downtick in quality.
Is it fun? No.
Does it handicap the strength of the site? Yes.
Do members pay anything to be a part of the forum? Nope.
Do bills have to get paid? Yes, and maintaining a web site of this size is not free.

So....whaddayagonnado?

this will probably get closed as well :D
I would do the same thing If I was RC, just put yourself in their shoes. They need to protect any potential false claims about my sponsor's product/reputation! If that's the reason, I have no problem :)

It's not necessarily due to sponsors.

There was a warning posted by a mod in there to stay on topic and stick to PAR data.

What is transparent is how many issues there may have been in the thread, and how many posts may have needed editing or deletion due to UA violations.

Having moderated forums, I can attest to sometimes closing a thread as being the simplest solution when said thread needs constant baby-sitting and policing for those who can't follow the rules.

Just offering a different perspective here; I don't know why the thread was closed.

wasn't saying it was due to sponsors, just my speculation :)
yes, there was a warning, but some people don't listen, haha.... these off topic people were talking about was leaning towards "potential false claims about the sponsors"

If any of the LP (little people) could see some of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes between Staff and sponsors it'd be pretty clear how silly any claims of favoritism are .

To answer the question, only moderator and admins may close threads. I wasn't the one who handled that thread so I don't know the specifics regarding why it was closed but I do remember there were some post reports asking for it to be closed. :)
