FWIW my 30 breeder is the same brand as mention above (Aqueon) and it is 1/4 inch glass. I can't imagine they would use the same glass to build a 180...
hey mark, glad to hear that your upgrading, but not so to hear about your worries on the tank, from what your describing, i am too leaning towards it being tempered, they say is ~4x times stronger than normal glass
That's an expensive sump. Call around to some local pet stores and explain your situation. You may not have to bend over too much if you can get them to sell it to some freshwater guy looking to house frontosas or oscars.
If it's 282# there's no way it's 1/2 inch. My Oceanic weighs 340#. I'm pretty much screwed I think. I got it from Tim at ABC for pretty cheap (relatively speaking). He said he'd take it if I didn't like it, but I can't do that. He does me a favor and I toss it back in his face. No way. I'll eat it before I do that. My fault for rushing.
Waiting to hear from Miracles. Any other manufacturers out there that make a non RR 1/2 inch glass stock 180?
the megaflows are just an incredibly stupid design if you ask me. and whoever decided to move them from the corners of the tanks must have been trying to get fired.
Mark, I'm sure the tank you bought is thick enough, those assembly line tanks are sold by the hundreds and if others' tanks were breaking, they wouldnt have sold you one.
As a side note, usually the tank manufacturers will only honor a 'lifetime guarantee' if you use one of their stands. Something to think about.
part of the reasoning of going with a standard tank is so that I can just reuse my current stand and canopy which I paid $$$$ for. I really am not comfortable with the thin glass. I'm not looking for adequate, so much as I'm looking for bullet proof. I mean there will be little kids running around. I'd be a nervous wreck.
Hate the huge corner overflows. profile is like 11wide by 8 deep. Eats up tons of realestate. Also, hate the big glass center brace. Makes aquascaping and cleaning a PITA and it gets covered with salt in a short period of time, interfering with lighting. Bad idea for sure.
