I also run a Turboaquatics scrubber, an L2. Makes life so much easier for my tanks. Here are some old pics of them -

All scrubber no beefed up CUC?

I do think that part of what caused it to get so bad in the first place was my lack of CUC as I thought my mantis would kill them anyway. Then I found out he didn't bother larger snails. So I added 20 largish snails about a month before the ATS went online. My mantis took out the smallest half a dozen in the first two days (seemed like it was more because he enjoys killing rather than to eat). The rest were too big for him to kill and live on to this day :P

The snails would certainly eat the algae but it would be back in less than 5 days, just as thick as before. In addition I was pulling out 1-2 cups of squeezed algae every 5-10 days and it would just grow back straight away, even with the snails trying to keep it down.

When the ATS went online I stopped pulling the algae out by hand and just let it do its thing. It brought the algae down and is keeping it down as it keeps on slowly receding. Snails are eating a bit but they more just keep the glass clean and don't go on the rocks very much. Anything they eat just gets turned into waste anyway which then feeds the algae.

Here is what I have put together, It is very simple design and working really well, I had build one half the size but due to my upgrade and more water volume, I decided to build bigger version with more surface are on screen, I have added the pictures of first harvest as well.

I had a one side DIY waterfall that was a PITA to clean and was not doing enough, so I got an L2 v 4.
It is so much easy to clean and is well built. It along with my DIY sulfur denitrator reduce my 60-80 ppm NO3 down to 0-5 ppm in two weeks.

Very nice results!
As of now i dose white vinegar( it now stays at 0-2ppm) with my doser and it works good but i want to go all natural and stop dosing it along with me having to dose lanthanum chloride for phosphates(when it reaches above .10ppm). But right now if i dont dose vinegar my NO3 will get to well over 50ppm. I cant wait to get my L4 and see the results i get!

I run a turbo aquatics L4 and a l2 on another . I am currently on the wait list for the newest version . His quality and customer service is second to none . I will be selling off both my older versions and replacing with his newer versions soon.
