Who's using Coralvue Reeflux on their SPS tanks?

I'm considering making the switch from 10k XM's to the 14k Coralvue Reeflex.

The XM's are great bulbs but they are just far too intense, 4 250 watters in LA3 minis over my 180 is way too intense. I was wondering what you all thought of possibly switching to the Coralvue bulbs or if perhaps there is a better bulb to go with.

20k's are out of the question, too blue for my taste, but something in the 12-14k range would be nice.

Thanks.

I use two 250w 10k reeflux on my lps tank and 2 250w 10k reeflux mixed with xm 20k's on my sps. You may be happy with the 10k's instead of the 14k's. The 10k's have alot of blue spectrum. I too changed from XM 10k's.

yea they are way too intense its just too much, do you have any pictures of your 10k xm's, i dont want to go too blue, maybe a 10k of a different bulb would be a better choice.....

The reeflux 10K is a nice look. I think if you like the more white look of the XM10K but want something just a little less intense you'll probably like the reeflux. it gives a slightly different look as it has a different blue peak more like a the radium. But looks nice.

I just replaced my P14 with the CVR 10kK. Mine been burning for 10 days now and I love it! I got the 250DE and drive in on an IC ballast. Nice crisp white, but there is still enough 420nm that the greens and blues still look green and blue.

I replaced the P14 and I think my colors actually look better under the 10kK.

Just got my 10K reeflux bulb today.. Can't wait to get home to replace it. I'm using 10K XM now. I like more blue :)

On your lamp test the 250w Reeflux 10k got 324 PAR at 231 watt's on PFO standard ballasts, which is what we are using. Would four of these bulbs be good on our 180?

yea i want some more blue too. i am using dual 250 watt PFO ballasts, not HQI just standard, what do you think about those bulbs combined with those ballasts?

Here`s a pic of my 210 gal reef. Middle is an XM 10K and both ends are lit by the ReefLux 10K. The ReefLux are so much nicer, give more acctinic effect. Corals look better.

And here`s an end shot,

Do you have any pics of the color difference?

Thanks

The reeflux does not look any more blue than the XM10K bulb IMO. I think it peaks at 450nm rather than 420nm that XM10K and other 10K lamps. So it gives a slightly different color rendition than the other 10K's.

I have not formally tested the reeflux 10K, it is not the same bulb as the older coralvue 10K that is on my site.

I just wanted to add that I to switch from xm 400 10k to the reeflux 400 10k, and wow , what a difference. I can see I finally found the bulb I was looking for.

jbny: have you seen the 12k they make, would that be a better choice or maybe too blue?

im not a fan of 'too blue'. i would prefer something in the 10k range but not as intense as the XM's, the XM's are a bit overboard......

I put a Reeflux 12k 40se on my prop tank after using a Radium 20k. The Reeflux has a crisp and clean color - I love it

Jsb, yeah they come in DE. I was using ushios 250 10k de but didn't want to run the 440 w vho super actinics anymore. Got the 10k reeflux and very pleased with the results. Oh and i run them on the pfo hqi magnetic ballast.

haven't seen it, sorry.

does anyone have shots of the 12k on a PFO ballast, not HQI just standard.

I would hate to buy the 10k and have it be not much different than the XM's are now, I know the PAR rating is different, the XM's are very intense, but I don't want the color to be all that similar, I would like slightly more blue but not too much.
