Who's using Coralvue Reeflux on their SPS tanks?

I've had my 10K reeflux on for about 4 months now...Here's a pic.

Aurora, we need some details on this monstrous bivalve! :eek1:

I am receiving my reeflux tomorrow. I have taken some pics with the xm 10k which is pretty yellow IMO, and I will be taking some pics with hte reeflux to see the difference.

Hey Buddy,
How's it going? I've run most of the bulbs (400W) for an extended time since I have so many tanks. Both the XM15,000K and the Coralvue 12,000K have about a 5-6 month life when driven by a PFO HQI ballast and look rather blue to me.
The Reeflux 10,000k is what I'm running on my home tank. The pictures on my home page were taken with the Reeflux running on PFO HQI ballast. Growth has been very good. Blue corals look especially nice.

HTH,
Kevin

Kevinpo I also have a 400 watt HQI ballast. I'm going to get a new bulb soon. I was thinking of the Radium 20k. Iwas given a slightly used Xm 20k to try. I was supprised to see how the HQI ballast made a 20k bulb look like a 10k bulb. According to you the 15k on the HQI ballast looks a bit nices than the one I'm trying. Maybe it's more used than I thought. Any comments?

I haven't run the XM 20,000K just the XM 10,000K and XM 15,000K. The XM 15,000K looked like a Radium 20,000K but just slightly whiter. For me it was too blue. I also run a couple of 110W actinic VHO's over the 90 gal so I changed one of them to a 50/50 (actinic/white) and it looked good to me. The coral colors and growth were OK. I was just disapointed by the short bulb life. I only ran one bulb and there is always the possibility that I got a bad bulb.

Kevin

Yes, the HQI PFO ballast overdrives many of the bulbs shortening the lifespan of the bulbs. The lifespan varies from 5-12 months for different brands. There is also a wide spread in spectral output depending on the ballast.

Just curious, how do you guys get over the lack of par? I'm switching from Iwasaki's to either evc 10k's or xm 10k's, but I have considered reeflux. I just have trouble getting my mind around the same number of watts, and half the par.

PS, I'll be using 1 bulb in a lumenarc III or lumenmax 18" off the water to light 4'*4'*15" area. I'm going to use one 400w bulb and no actinic, so intensity and color are both important.

I just ordered a Dual PFO 250W HQI ballast from OceanEncounter & 2-12K 250W CV ReefLux bulbs from ReefExotics.......i'll post after initial lighting and then again after 100 hours or so to burn in.
