wind storm/ power outage 2017

@DBR_reef: Thanks! It seems like most people do the upgraded UPS method or the completely barebones, battery/charger/inverter (or such) method.

I never lost power but my tree fell on my power line pulling down my roof riser streatching my power line to max.
Since my house is 1964, there are a lot of upgrades that need to be done at the same time.
Im going to have the whole house generator plug put in while I'm at it. No more extension cords running all over...
According to the electrician, I will be with out power for 1 whole day to complete all repairs and upgrades.
That means maybe 2 to complete the complete install.

The ups method has a couple advantages- assuming you do not need too much power draw. Some can self test and alert you when the battery is failing. They generally come in a sleeker package. And they generally have built in protections

@MarksReef:
Bummer about the damage but I guess the plus side is that it is a good time for upgrades.

@DBR_reef:
Yes, although it is much more difficult to upgrade the supply of a UPS because they generally are designed only for their specific battery. So unless it is a VERY expensive model that can chain batteries, you are more limited.

Decided to go with a "modified" idea for DIY on replacing my Apex. I did all the coding for a basic controller (and still might slowly work on that). But there is/was a deal on ZigBee outlets on Amazon (Securifi Peanut Plug). Since home automation is something I am big into (on the cheap though) ALSO... I got a bunch and set up my home automation system (Securifi Almond 3) to control them. The only thing lacking is sensors at this point for temperature and pH. Temperature is being handled by an InkBird unit (as well as the built-in heater controls). pH is back to "good old testing" for now.
