Replaced both units this winter complete replacements but the downstairs went out sunday night and we didn't notice untill early monday morning. I was out of town and my poor wife had to install 2 window units, fight off the kids and put bags of ice in the tank to keep it @ 80deg. I'm pretty sure she loves me. Hopefully the guys that put it in will be out tonight or early in the am. I dont think it will last with the way we are running right now. Keep you all posted.

Mine went out today at my apartment, it took a month for them to fix the tenants next to me I hope mine is faster. Good luck to you!

It's no fun placing that stress on someone else, no! Sounds like your wife does love you. :) I actually had a power outtage recently and was able to test my 1800 watt generator. My power was out the day after the recent Norman wind storm. They must have been refiring up some grids, which took us offline. I think is was off at 9am and out until about 4pm. I was home so I kicked on my 1800 watt generator, which ran my refrigerator, AC, and a power head (at the surface of my tank). I had a battery operated air pump to help.

My indoor temperature was rising dramatically throughout the day and actually bumped up to 83*F! I unplugged the fridge for a while, thinking it was sucking power, but my AC was blowing air...it just wasn't cool enough! Outside temp was well into the 90*s. Fortunately, the tank was fine and my temp calculations had it hanging at 78-79*F so that was nice.

After the power came back on, the house immediately cooled down. I have an older gas furnace (15years). I didn't think it would need that kind of wattage. Or am I missing something? Yes, I should have bought a higher wattage generator. It was all I could reasonably find heading into the epic ice storm we had. :headwallblue:

Chris, keep your cool and keep that tank cool. Let me know if you need anything.

You can put a fan over your sump and that will help cool it. I do that in the warm months to keep the temp down.

What kind of AC were you running, b/c if you under powered it, the compressor would not run, which means it was a big fan at that point?

1800 watts is not alot, in fact i would venture to guess that your fridge used up most of that.

First, THANK YOU to all that offered help. Shannon was able to get two window units installed and get the house cooled off downstairs. They will be out in the morning to fix the ac unit under warranty. The tank was @ 85.9 Deg! So far no cassualties. It was only up that high for a little while. Shannon ice packed the tank, opened all the doors and turned all the fans on high. the 2 little window units surprisingly keep the house really cold. Sorry it took me so long to respond its been a bit crazy the last few weeks. We also got hit twice with Wind and Hail and will be putting a new roof on the house and possibly a complete siding job. Luckilly I have really good insurance. Lots of roofers and the adjusters for a few more days and hopefully the roof will begin construction in a week or so. We may even do a little add on while they are here. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again to all that offered help! Thats why I'm happy to be a part of such a great group of people.

To save on ice you can freeze pop bottles filled with water and rotate them in your tank or sump to cool it off. Just remember to leave room in the bottlesfor ice expansion.

well they fixed it on thursday and its out again. Hopefully they can figure it out soon before it really gets hot! luckilly I still have the window units in place so just turned em on till they can come out again.

Oh lets hope not. All though that is good for business I tend to need a vacation everyother weekend working in this heat.
