Ask that same question in the ecotech forum area. I am sure one of the guys there can tell us. and YES it would be based on a CLEAN pad, which would degrade over time as items attach to it.

Sorry for your loss. They sell a foam that goes on the wet side to prevent that. The only difference is that you don't get as much flow with it on there. But I am sure you knew that already.

Thanks.
The Vortech's actually come with the foam filters/screens (you can buy spares as Worm pointed out). I looked in the box when I got home & they (foam screens) were in there. I put them on all my Vortechs (2 MP-60s & 2 MP-40s).
The MP-40s are in 56.1g tanks, so (IMO) the MP-40s are way too big for these tanks. I am running them as low as possible, so losing flow is not an issue (I can turn them up if need be). I would have gotten MP-10s for those tanks, but they are 1/2" glass & MP-10s maximum glass thickness is 0.375".

I purchased 10 so I can replace them quickly and just wash out/clean the old ones.
I did that with by Berlin bags. I have 3, 7" filter bags in my sump, so I bought 12.
The foam screens do not need to be washed, just a quick rinse & replace (put pumps in feed mode).
I will be getting spares as they might not hold up that well. The seam between the 2 halves appears to be melted. IME, this type of seam will fail. . .

Yea I am curious how much less flow you get with the MP40 and the foam on it. Anyone have a ballpark?

Corey

I can't imagine there's any appreciable degradation of flow. Granted, the foam is clean & as it gets dirtier there will be less flow. Even with fairly 'clogged' foam, they could still move (enough) water.
If I were to guesstimate a loss in flow, I would put it at 2-3% with a new screen & 4-6% with a dirty screen.
IMO, 6% less than awesome is still awesome!

Thanks.

They actually hold up real good. I have had more issues with the elastic aspect giving out. But I think I put those in too hot of water.

I have replaced my orig sets because of that, and have not had any problems with what I have now for over 8 months of continuous use.

Worm,
Glad to hear they hold up. I will treat them with TLC anyway. If you have two or more in a rotation, they will all last longer than they would if used one on a continual basis,no?

Yes.... I have 10 total between the two active mp40's ... But I have not always had the extras. I used to turn off the MPs quickly take them off then go into the kitchen and rinse them off. Wring them out and pad them dry and put it back on the MP within 5 mintues.

Yeah that was a LONG time ago... back when I thought they needed the mp, and the flow it provided, to live. Now I know I can get away with 6 minutes.... (hahaha just kidding)

The one that gives me problems now I still have in rotation. It has to be one of the originals.. As it is loose on the MP. It still holds on. I will toss it soon. But I like to keep an even number. While I have 3 mp's I only have two running in the 180. I will prob put the third in the 120 when that comes on line after labor day.

Beautiful Tanks.....simply amazing

Thanks again, Henryz!

Woot woot! finally an awesome vid! Love the scape in the big tank! Seriously dude such an awesome concept in here, love it. In the tank with the clowns the little nem, is that what's left of the nem? And let's get a filtration room vid!

Yeah, sorry about the previous, sucky, videos . . .
The only credit I can take for the (awesome) scape, is hiring the right guy to do the job, but thanks.
I can, however, take all the credit for the concept & design, as they were my ideas . . . Thanks (again)
After I put the foam screens on the MP-40, I acquired 3 new nems - a green, rose, & rainbow BTA. So, no, the original nem didn't make it.
I put a filtration room vid up not too long ago - not much has changed since then. here is the link to that same video:

Sweet! The clowns hosting the new nems? And mp10's work on 1/2" at least on my reef savvy tank they do. Just have to make sure you use the little adhesive thing above it.

Yes, clowns were hosting in 24 hours.

The MP-10s only work on glass up to 0.375".
Those tanks have glass that is 0.5" thick.
I upgraded to 2 MP-40s . . .

Sweet! I know they say up to .0375 but they will work on .5"
But with the mp40's on the satalite tanks and foam covers on they will slow down the flow enough cause once they get clogged up its pretty noticeable difference.

All the panels are finally in place!
They are still not finished - hopefully tonight they will be.
They need to be tweaked & the door stays installed (etc).

The panels at the top are going to have stained glass inlaid into them (the gray boarder & the diamond in the center).
