Sorry for your loss. They sell a foam that goes on the wet side to prevent that. The only difference is that you don't get as much flow with it on there. But I am sure you knew that already.
Thanks.
The Vortech's actually come with the foam filters/screens (you can buy spares as Worm pointed out). I looked in the box when I got home & they (foam screens) were in there. I put them on all my Vortechs (2 MP-60s & 2 MP-40s).
The MP-40s are in 56.1g tanks, so (IMO) the MP-40s are way too big for these tanks. I am running them as low as possible, so losing flow is not an issue (I can turn them up if need be). I would have gotten MP-10s for those tanks, but they are 1/2" glass & MP-10s maximum glass thickness is 0.375".
I purchased 10 so I can replace them quickly and just wash out/clean the old ones.
I did that with by Berlin bags. I have 3, 7" filter bags in my sump, so I bought 12.
The foam screens do not need to be washed, just a quick rinse & replace (put pumps in feed mode).
I will be getting spares as they might not hold up that well. The seam between the 2 halves appears to be melted. IME, this type of seam will fail. . .
Yea I am curious how much less flow you get with the MP40 and the foam on it. Anyone have a ballpark?
Corey
I can't imagine there's any appreciable degradation of flow. Granted, the foam is clean & as it gets dirtier there will be less flow. Even with fairly 'clogged' foam, they could still move (enough) water.
If I were to guesstimate a loss in flow, I would put it at 2-3% with a new screen & 4-6% with a dirty screen.
IMO, 6% less than awesome is still awesome!
