WOW internet Cable Phone

rickyb do you a kids? if you need help (911) can they call and get 911. You should test it out . . And see what happens. good luck you all should try it. They are less $$ for many thing one is they do not help with 911. 911 is pay by us with local phone service.

I am thinking about switching to an WEb phone. I did consider the 911 issue. Thankfully I never had to call 911 on my Home phone or my Cell phone. I do know that the cellular companys have spent millions of dollars updating there E911 systems because they were mandated to by the goverment. I have never used it so I am not sure if it is usefull at all. Regardless I am going through the same situation with SBC/ATT yahoo DSL. My contract expired and they Jacked my rates up. The customer support has gottem more friendly but they still suck. I have spent hours with them trying to explain the features I want for my phone, or how they are not billing me at the rate I agreed to. Then they dont track who you have already spoken to so you start at square one with someone else. I guess it's time to take the plunge and check out how Well WOW cable works.

Threads like this burn me up to no end. Having alot of inside information I can tell you guys that some of these posts contain mis-information. That's all I'm going to say. There are pluses and minuses to both, but get the facts before you trash a company.

Easy to be upset about something you take for granted.

I understand that you have pride in your company but you have to realize that this thread was started asking about one cable/internet provider and other people are chiming in on their recommendations (whether it is positivie or negative) on internet service.

I don't see how this is misinformation either when these posts are direct experiences of each person with certain providers.

Some of the situations described here are simply impossible. DSL technology does not allow for some of these things to happen.

At least, not in the manner described.

I want to also point out that SBC/at&t have not "jacked" anyone rates up. You sign a 1 year contract for that service at that price. After that year you will be billed accordingly. That is the cost of month to month service. If you sign for a year your service is discounted. Just like with your cell phone.

I have been a vonage user for over a year...... the only issues i have are every now and then you have to reboot the router to reset it, and it only happens maybe once or twice every 6 months. I am happy with it overall. Any survice you get there are pros and cons, but i would reccomend vonage if you have a cable modem, its cheap, reliable, and its a phone what more do u want..... all the features you need are included no gimmicks. No i dont work for them just a satisfied customer.

As for Internet..... comcast is reliable but expensive only 1 outage in the past year, and only down for less then 2 hours.

Just my 2 cents

Internet Cable Phone has no 911
untrue Comcast's franchise agreement with most citys require it

They also don't provide their own battery
Also untrue, Comcast has a battery backup on alll NIU's and EMTA's that provides 8-10 hours of standby time and like 3hrs talk time.

With all that said We just use cell phones, Bell ticked me off about 5 yrs ago by leaving me and my neighbor off for 7 days and to be honest digital phone through the cable is just not reliable enough for me

untrue Comcast's franchise agreement with most citys require it??
Then the city blew that one:)

When Att first launched service 911 didn't work but as far as I know the schaumberg, north chicago, libertyville and mchenry headends have support 911 for about 5yrs now

just like the cell phone the 911 is not your area that your calling from it could be two state over or out of the state who knows.

all I have to say is WOW this thread got heated for a post on something completely off the topic of reefs. But I must admit I checked for availability in my area..nogo

They can't supply their own battery. Doesn't it require that your cable modem is functioning? Maybe I am mistaken.....

Maybe it's just been my experience, but I've never had a cell phone company increase my rates after my contract expired. They always kept me at the same rates until I changed my package, I could just cancel at any time without repercussion after my contract expired.

The problem I had with SBC was they were not clear the $19.99 was the rate only under contract, or that I was even under a contract especially since I never signed anything. They only told me I could not cancel for one year but only because they gave me free equiptment. Again very simliar to a cell phone contract, free phone for your contract but no rate change after the contract expired. I probably would have stayed with SBC ($19.99 is a good deal, plus unlimited newsgroup access. Comcast only allows 2gigs) if they post-dated my contract but they refused.

at this time no Internet Cable Phone will call the correct 911 service. it is not setup to do this
CDV has 911, it's referenced to the Mac address, If for what ever reason your head end is not set up to support it the only was to get that changed is to start bugging the city to get on them.

With CDV yes the modem has to be online, but I belive there is a back up battery built into the emta , I'll check tomorrow just to be shure

Just remember 911 will not work if your using vonage or another service, only with cdv

Chris I fell sorry for ya, When ATT owend us they made a lot of mistakes hopefully theyll do better with you guys
