does it realy work? is it worth it?

I am three weeks in to it, It does seem to work... Is it worth it? I don't know, If you can get the same result cheaper and easier, it isn't if you are unable to, then it is... so it boils down to personal preference'

There are more ways than zeovit to get low nutrients.

I was recently told in the zeo forum that the full blown zeo deal wasn't needed in my case as I already have a nutrient poor enviroment and that I should try some of the amino acids , pocci glo and a few other additives.

Thanks Skipper, but I was wanting to see average Joe tanks. They all can't be totm material can they?

i'm curious when people talk about the cost of running a zeo tank ,what is the average monthly costs of this , is it based on gal. size i presume?

thanks -Russ

Russ, it depends on what you start out with, and tank size matters a little...plus who ya know.

If you start with a 100.00 reactor I think you can get the Media, start, BaK and food for about another 100.00-125.00 depending on who you know and the size bottles you buy. That lasted me about a year.

My personal freind who uses Zeo and has a TOTM worthy tank also agreed with this. My tank is very low in nutrients right now as well. He advised I give the AAHC and the CV a try though. He said he noticed almost immediate results (within a week or less) of increased growth, color, and PE. I am going to try both soon and see how they go for about a month before I make my decision.

i use a phosban reactor which can hold up to 1L zeolites. my reactor w/ MJ400 was $50. all other zeo stuff was almost $300. i'm guessing but i think i may have to reup on everything maybe twice a year. so that's roughly 500-600/year. well worth it IMO, and i'm only going on 2 weeks. PO4 undetectable already, was 0.01. everything else was and still is undetectable, and coral PE is crazy and coloring has definately improved. oh yeah water clarity is silly.

My friend calculates for his 120g is about $30.00/month. Not too bad

Where are the before and after pics?

One thing people need to consider as well is that the good looking zeo tanks are usually by people who practice regular tank maintenance routines and have good/oversized equipment (flow, skimming, water changes, etc.). You CANNOT base results solely on the zeo if you are practicing good husbandry.

A lot of people comment on that as well - but it often turns out that when starting zeo, people have also upgraded equipment, begun regular husbandry practices, etc.

This is a good discussion. :)

I am just getting ready to start ZEO. I ordered my reactor about 4 weeks ago and still waiting for it to be finished. The reactor is going to run around $200. And enough of the basic4 + AAHC + CV for 3 months will run me another $430. So that give me an initial startup cost of $630 for the first 3 months. After that it will run me approximately $120 or so per month (rough estimate). But at the end of 3 months I should be ready to start using the other supps such as pocci-stylo glow, PIF, Spur2, and SpurME so that will increase the monthly cost. One thing is for sure, this is not a cheap system to run for larger tanks. I sure hope it will be worth it.

He is right about the monthly estimate, the bigger the tank the more $$$

i have a 275 gallon main tank (265 net) and i am right about 100-160 about every 4-6 weeks depending on what i need supplies of (more when i need the other supplements thant he basic4, like CV, AA, so on). It averages me about $125 for every 4-6 weeks using all the suplements they have out, except pocci-stylo glow.... I have been running it for a year.....

the cost is directly proportional to the amount of net gallons you have.

i think u r alittle high on that monthly estimate.

How is that high? It doesn't even matter what vendor you use to calculate the costs because the prices are the same at every vendor in the US. Here is the breakdown of what will last me around 3 months:
100 ml CV $99.99
6 bags ZEOvit $119.94
3L KZ carbon $84.00
50 ml ZEOfood7 $19.99
250ml ZEOstart2 $44.99
50ml AAHC $44.99
10ml ZEObak $19.99
total = $433.89

That same stuff would break down to $144.63 per month. But I subtracted a little off that and guessed about $120 per month as the 250ml of start and the 50ml of food should last a little longer than 3 months.

Travis,

I think K-balance is now considered a necessary basic also. I don't see that on your list.
