Hello, my name is Ken.

I've kept water filled glass boxes for over 40 years, salt water for 8 and reef for 4. My first tank was slate bottom with stainless steel frame and black stuff for sealer that looked more like tar than silicone. Anybody remember those? Had some fish only SW tanks back in the 70s when undergravel plate filters were the rage.

My current system is a 150g water system with a 100g sps tank and 60g lps tank and common sump. Sps tank has twin 400w MHs with 20,000K bulbs. Lps tank has 6 bulb T5 fixture that I run with 4 bulbs on mostly. There are zoanthids and palythoas in both tanks, though more in the lps tank.

I joined RC to learn about the fascinating world of corals and to share my interest in them. I've appreciated the advice from those with greater experience and wouldn't have been as successful without RC and the good people here. Thank you.

Paul, welcome aboard. As for the sharing part, don't be afraid to contribute man, you might be surprised by something you did or noticed that other more experienced people have missed. Everyone always has something to add.

Ken, thanks for sharing your info. I've enjoyed a good number of your threads. Just FYI, I also remember the slate-bottomed stainless steel tanks, not because I ever ran one, but my father did. In fact, I have some slate in one of my freshwater Cichlid tanks taken from the bottom after the tank busted.

I have one of those steel tanks somewhere too.

At school there is a shallow tank with a glass front/back and concrete sides. Running from one side to the other is a threaded post and you hold the tank together by tightening the bolts with a wrench.

Hello, my name is: Tonya

I've been in the hobby since 1998. I started with a 55g FWLR only. I discovered Mucho Reef's TOTM in 2003 and fell in love. I didn't know tanks could look that way. My current system is a 180g zoanthid, palythoa and ricordea tank. Yep, MR rubbed off a little bit!

with a: 75g fuge, Euroreef skimmer, MP-40w's for flow and a DA reefkeeper elite.

and the following lighting: T-5 lighting.

I joined RC for: To expand my knowlege of reefing.

and to learn: From the experiences of others that have done this a lot longer than me.

Hello All.....:wavehand:

Hello, my name is: David aka blkg35

I've been reefing for: 1 month but been a member since 09 mostly lurking. I have a 225gal freshwater South American Eartheater tank. Been doing freshwater for 8 years. And finally, the saltwater bug just bit me.....:lmao:

My current system is a: 14gal rimless fowlr

with a: AC70 HOB filter, no skimmer

and the following lighting: 20" Coralife PC lights 65w 10K/actinic

with: lots of live rocks, mandarin goby (eats brine shrimp) and CUC

and: I recently purchased a 24"x24"x18"high rimless acrylic tank with a
20"x18"x16" sump/refugium. I plan on turning this tank into a zoa tank.
I picked up some rocks from another member and it had a tiny frag of zoa. I was intrigued by the zoa and started doing research. Now i'm hooked...:inlove:

I joined RC for: all the insane tanks and builds. RC guys/gals are the most creative people I've ever seen!!!

and to learn: how to build and maintain a happy and successful zoa garden.
Wish me luck.......:lol2:

Welcome Tonya , nice to have you along. I'd love to see a picture of that tank, do you by chance have a thread?

Dave, welcome aboard! Glad to have you and good luck on your zoa garden!

Welcome David, no need to lurk, jump right in there buddy.

Welcome Tonya and thank you for the kind words.:D I need a tissue.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I'll be asking alot of questions when the time comes...:hmm3: I just need to build a stand.

Very cool dude. Not to side track this thread, but what species of Eartheaters do you have in that system? Geophagus?

Sharkboy, I currently have Geophagus redhead tapajos, Satanoperca daemon, satanoperca leucosticta, A. Heckelii Threadfin and a pair of discus.

Hello, my name is: Kevin/xaos

I've been a reefing for: ...uh, I haven't even really started yet, but I'm working on it! I've kept freshwater for about 20 years now, and currently maintain just a few smaller planted tanks with a mix of tetras, fancy plecos, apistogramma, and killifish.

My current system is (will be) a: 90g (48x18x24) w/29g sump, SRO XP2000 skimmer, and T5 lighting

I joined RC so that I could take advantage of the vast stores of knowledge, both archived in threads, and hidden away in people's brains ;) ...and also so that, hopefully, someday, I can share same with future new folks like myself.

and to learn. (yep, that line basically sums it up without addition)

as well as to share my: progress and enthusiasm for the aquarium-keeping hobby.

Hey Kev, nice intro.

The people here are the best, very knowledgeable and willing to help others out, so post away. Yes indeed, take advantage of the search button. There are some awesome topics on tons of subjects here which will help you maintain that stunning reef tank you're building.:wavehand:

Again, welcome.
