Ridiculous.. in the best possible way.

Yeah truly next level s**t. I would imagine though after owning one or a trio in Teds case that the hunt for the next cool thing dwindles and you start to revaluate the stocklist you have currently as to not upset the Personatus. So maybe in some ways they actually take the passion away from anything that isn't a masked angelfish? I know I sure would feel like I had reached the top if you will.

I personally don't get fish to "reach the top". I get them because I like them. It has nothing to do with rarity. That is why I have continually had a marine aquarium for 42 years. My absolute favorite fish is my Moorish Idol, which is tremendously common and I got for $25. It's beauty and personality is what makes me passionate, plus the fact that I have had it now for 7 years and most people can't keep one for 7 months. Different motivations for different people I guess. That being said, I love seeing these rare in the trade fish that Ted has, and I love this thread. Otherwise I would never even know they exist.

When he also has Clarions, Bandits, Conspics, Wrought Irons, Interruptus, Joculus, and others, I can't imagine losing passion even after reaching "the top", so to speak.

Few of us will ever know. This inspires the h*** out of me, for sure.

Fair enough, but I think it's really the same thing overall. Much as I love all these gorgeous unobtainables, nothing gets me stoked like a Clown Trigger, Lipstick Tang, and any Arothron Puffer. Same-same.

Not the case with me...

The passion/obsession never dies, it only increases, or, lol, gets worse...
It has nothing to do with "reaching the top." I did that when I converted from Africans and got my first tiny humu (aculeatus,) about 35 years ago... Also, if you know the thread well, you will remember my fondness for my Cortez angel that I lost after many years, they are very common, and many would say ugly fish, especially as an adult...The first time I saw a saltwater tank, it was love at first sight, it had an aculeatus, tiny- though adult navarchus, royal gramma, and Cetoscarus bicolor...

I do admit I reevaluate my stock-list every time I look at my tank, because as our fish grow, their temperaments often change (sometimes insanely fast) especially when keeping aggressive fish...

Lol, the Gp do get a lot of air-time in here but that is primarily to share their growth and history, especially now, as I have the only male tb personatus at this point, so there is a curiosity about him...
However, they are by no means my sole focus...
I do like rare fish, but for the challenge, the same reason I like baby fish, not because it makes me feel good...

I got lucky with the Gp., it was not because of a lifelong obsession to get one...For me it began with a phone call from Rufus and when I picked-up his first words to me were, "How well can you keep a secret?" Lol, are you kidding me?? If he asks me that or anything else, I am all in...

I am def giving the gp a wide berth, but am not means getting rid of everything for them...they will have plenty of friends, just ones that I hope will not cause too much stress...If I still had 3 females, they would have been in the Dt a while ago...

If anyone is in this hobby to feel like they reached the top, lol, this is the wrong hobby to be in...

Regards to all...

I agree, I will never lose the passion! I am just as obsessive about books about fish and read constantly, just to fuel to passion...

It's a must.

Yes, and your Lunula and Cinereus were spectacular. Still not many of the latter around. Or the former, really. Assassis are quite scarce, too.

great stuff...

:lolspin:

This thread is quite possibly the best rare marine angelfish thread I've ever read. The collection humaguy has put together over the years is truly inspiring.

What led me to open this thread in the first place was the tank dimensions. I'm looking at a 144 x 36 x 36 after my move in a few months and I want to keep similar types of fishes.

This thread has truly inspired me, and I thank you, humaguy, for that.
