130 X 36 x 36 inbound...any suggestions?

i hate to be the one to take focus off your beautiful stocking choices, but im curious about your filtration for such a large volume of water. in particular your skimmer. how is it? have you updated anything in the sump/fuge, pumps, filters? i am an equipment guy. filtration got me into the hobby and am always seeking knowledge from those with more experience than my self.

I'm brand new to RC, and I've started reading this amazing monster thread (through post #1150 so far).

I'm still a bit shocked and reeling, both from the incredible fish and the inventory transitions over the last ~5 years.

This thread has inspired me to return to the hobbsession after a two-decade absence. Thanks, Huma. :)

sure, the skimmer in an mrc 6 with an mrc skimmer canister sump...there are two 150 gallon fuges under the tank with 6 filter socks and lots of rock. I have not found any reactors that I really like, but I love what Bill W is making and may have him build me something. At the end of the day, I am old school, and believe in water changes to keep things kosher, and change 240 gallons every 3-5 weeks...if you go back in the thread, there are pics of all. Thanks for checking out the thread!

Welcome back!:wavehand:
Now get a massive system going...4 tanks is okay, but one massive, is so much cooler...If I could change anything with my dt, I would have gone much wider and much deeper...
Good luck and looking forward to pics!

Hey bro, any chance I could get a stock list? Thanks!

there are a lot of fish between the tanks...clarions, bandits, wrought iron, conspics, tigerpyges, gem hybrid, geni hybrid, semi x annularis hybrid, Gp trio, cocos lemons, lemons, coral beauties, goldens, candies, tb scribbled, 2 male ch, semis, colins, venustus, potters, probably forgetting some...

June 22, 2014, 3 months old...1 and 1.5 (center) inch pvc....

Feb 26, 2016, almost 2 years old...

yes, the top pic is about the first week I had them...mid-June 2014, they were 3 months old at that point. They are a week shy of 2 years old now...their birthday is almost here...:celeb3:

not particularly my favorite fish, and lol, that is clear as I just omitted them from my above stock list...I was going to pull them but now that one is turning male, I may keep, and put them in Gp tank when Gp go into the dt...

My original plan was for a single large 2000-5000g tank; but I want to keep such a large and ecclectic variety of cross-incompatible fish (and reef corals), I don't see how one massive system would be feasible.

Two dozen triggers and a dozen puffers are difficult enough to accommodate together; I can't imagine dozens of angels, butterflies, wrasses, groupers, rabbitfish, lionfish, cowfish, eels, rays, and many others being added to the triggers and puffers in one community tank, even a 5000g and giving up most corals.

I'll have to admit I was sad when your gorgeous triggers were rehomed, and wish I would have been back in the hobby earlier to take them. Yours was the most impressive gathering of trigs I've ever seen.

I'm open to answers and suggestions.

Well... I could do up to an 18'x12' tank that is 6'-8' deep if I could resolve all the cross-compatibility issues. But how?

Set-up the tank with enough places for all to hide, could make some shallower "shelfs" too... I tried to set-up my rock like a maze inside, then work out, and then stacked upon, makes a great refuge for some of the smaller fish, worked with the trigs too, the big fish can only go so far...

lionfish, cowfish, eels- may fall off your list, lol...

Thanks, the trig tanks were great and I miss them, trigs, esp, the goldenback, that was a great fish, trigs are my true love!
I forget the number, I think, there were around 20-25+ triggers in the dt, at the high point, and it was overall, pretty peaceful...every Rhinecanthus, except Abyssus, I still say they get a bad rap, lol...
You def need to narrow down what you want, but in a 5000 gallon system, the volume will help you get away with some things that could not be done in a small tank...I would focus on getting the tank squared away and would not commit to any stock list now....

just because pic of the day...
this guy is now around 4 years old and close to 4.5 inches, he is enormous...
the spread on his antennae is over a foot!

Yes, sculpting rock formations is crucial. I envision a pretty intricate maze of tunnels and hidey-holes to define territories and provide shelter out of the open spaces.

Well, they sure aren't very trigger-compatible, and triggers are my non-negotiable first love. I don't think I could omit any of the ecclectic choices. Maybe one massive tank and still do several others.

Agreed. Some can be vicious, but I think it's often from too small a tank or insufficient cover to prevent aggression. I intend to have a queen, blueline, goldenheart, starry, pineapple, undulate (yes, I know), multiple clowns, multiple redtooths, and all the rhinecanthus, sufflamen, and melichthys specimens. (No Titan. LOL)

I've always planned tanks for their occupants, so this is difficult for me. It was drilled into me back in the day.

Time to make the equipment decisions then I suppose. Thanks for the input. You're one of the preeminent private aquarists in the country, IMO.
