1500 gal. Reef from Start to Finish...

This is a fantastic build especially in the timeframe you guys completed it in. I guess reefing for a living makes it easier to really dig in, eh? :)

I have a question: is this tank in a public office somewhere, because if so, I might just have to make an "appointment."

Ben

Absolutley astonishing. I can only dream of having such a beautiful reef. I couldnt even get my tank up that fast ands its only a 180.

If you dont mind me asking did you encounter a lot of fatalities with such a quick stocking method??? Also on the 900 do you have to clean the fake coral once in a while? I would imagine it to get pretty dirty.

If you don't mind me asking, would you like more info/pics on any particular piece of equipment? If you are looking for straight manufacturers info (flow rates, power usage, sizes, etc...) you may have to consult our equipment post and do some searches, otherwise we will be happy to try and answer any specifics. With such an involved system there are so many details and things we had to consider it makes it difficult to go in depth on everything.

Ha totally missed that post with the dimensions.

Just wondering whats being used to run it, flow(pump sizes, power heads, wavebox and such), skimmer size, if your using calc or ozone.

Im an engineer so the equipment is almost as fun as the reef itself for me:D

And any more pics of the FO setup?

EnderG60, this is the equipment list posted on the first page.

We did have some losses but they were expected. At the start the water quality was less then desirable but with large water changes (400g) we were able to keep up and keep everything happy. For the first two months we skimmed the tank aggressively (about 10g of skimmate per day). The coral inserts are cleaned once a week. They don't get too bad but we like to keep ahead of the curve.

Ben, unfortunately for the public these two systems are in a private office building. They help give a relaxing place for hard at work employees to let loose 5 minutes at a time.

Thanks for all the comments!

While not the best photo, this is a view of the 900G from the receptionist desk. One of the bottom panels was removed while we were making some adjustments.

Maybe the dude who bought all this stuff would find it fulfilling to host the RMRC meeting at the office one weekend... :)

Thanks for replying Mark. The fish only aquarium is in the reception area as stated above. With the summer sun it gets a few hours of direct sunlight which we are going to combat with shades for the windows. We do have to scrub it down once a week but mainly on the "window" side. Hopefully when the shades go up it will reduce the algae growth and we can keep it looking clean all week. It also is a tough aquarium to take good photos, lots of glare. One of these nights I will run over there and snap some photos without the glare.
Ben- The owner is following along with the thread and I will ask him if he would be interested. He actually responded in the thread earlier under Brandon's name, the password was saved on his computer.

tkeracer619 - how long do you have to take out those artificial corals for wash/ cleaning??

Very nice build - wish i have space for such a large tank....or a company that can afford that!!

Ed Reef - If I recall correctly, those reef inserts are actually stuck to the bottom of the aquarium. This prevents gravel from getting underneath and it makes it more sturdy. As heavy as those inserts are as well there is no way to remove them, nor do I think the two bigger inserts would actually fit through the tops (the tank was built around them).

All of the cleaning is done with brushes. We have several "toilet" brushes that are bolted inside PVC, from there we make PVC attachments of different lengths and different degree elbows to help us reach certain spots.

Sweet thread Cris. I havent seen the tank since you just put the rock in but I impressed by how nice the tank looks after such a short time. You know I hold great respect for you and you exceeded even my expectations of you, major kudos.

Thanks for all the replies and complements! They mean a lot to us as we have poured a lot of time, effort, and care into this project over the last few months.

I think it would fit!!!

If you push hard enough it will fit ;). Sometimes it involves pushing so hard the wall falls over XD
