200G AGE inwall with fishroom

Great looking setup!! Really like how clean and well planned out everything is!!

I really like your sump!

I wish I was aware of someone near me that could build one like that.
I'm curious (trying to learn), why did you go with a "drop-in" refugium section? I've seen it before (some of the lifereef sumps) but I can't figure out the pros/cons of that idea. I'm trying to design a sump and I'm trying to incorporate as many good ideas as I can.

Originally I also had planned a full sump height built-in refugium. What Dan (the guy that built it here locally) said was that lifting the height of the fuge gives you more sump volume and that makes sense because it's displacing less running volume in the sump, which would only be about half full to the top when running. I can also place it wherever I want to accommodate other equipment as needed. If I decided to run an external stand-alone fuge, I can just take it out and use the space for more equipment as needed or fill the area with rock. The empty sump space would make a decent frag tank with the appropriate lighting in that case also.

Cons include that it's taller than the sump. So it has to fit the space. We built it to do so, so that's not a problem here. If I change the stand for some reason and it's too tall, I can just cut the acrylic legs shorter.

You should check around your local fish stores if you haven't already. You may find that they do have someone who builds their sumps and can get you a custom sump for not too much bread ...

Thanks for the response. One more question... how do you keep your sump so clean!

Just kidding;)

Wiseguy, eh? I'll have you know that is still just as clean :). Maybe a few acrylic shavings from drilling it for the pump. Still no water, but close ...

Great looking build. However speaking of clean sumps, I have a question about the eggcrate under & around the skimmer. Wouldn't that tend to be a detritus trap? I can't tell from the pix what the intention is unless I missed it somehow in which case I apologize.

Thanks ... It has two purposes. First, it is the first chamber of a bubble trap. It's 4" wide to allow room for that eggcrate that sits about 4" above the bottom. The eggcrate is for media. I can throw whatever bag I want in there if needed, like carbon, Purigen, whatever. I can even put filter material like floss on it. The skimmer's outlet is also into this first bubble trap section and it will likely dump onto a big bag of carbon sitting in there because I'm planning on running ozone.

Pretty flexible, really. Just gotta have the room, though I don't see why a smaller setup couldn't just make it smaller.
