225g Display 500g+ build thread

Wow that bin looks to be made of some pretty tough material. Surprising it would crack on an undisturbed panel. Do you think it cracked where a bulkhead was drilled? Either way, I am thinking a two part epoxy, but can't speak from experience with that bin material.

I agree i'm suprised as well. The thing is, there isn't a bulk head drilled anywhere on it though it's completly uncut. (I'm planning on using an internal pump to help aid w/heat). Whats odd is my buddy who has the same bin and we both got them from the same guy.. is well.. Having the exact same problem. Although I think his leaks slighty more then mine :(.

I've also came across (thanks to a suggestion) A third option of sealing up the leaky sump.... A Pond liner..

I think thats what i'm going to do, while it may be the most un appealing of them all. It seems like the safest bet being that I can't locate the crack since it is so small. +Who knows it might also add another layer of "insulation" to keep things warmer in the winter (aka wishful thinkng ;) )

...t minus 2 hours till the big move swap is half over.. tank is all emptied out (sand ect) now, and i'll be driving down to LA to drop it off in a few hours.

Alright im' down south, and the second phase and third phase are complete. I have traded my 90's for a 180, and then we just finished setuping up the 180 at my friends house, by removing the contents of my now 225g tank! (pictures of the 180 setup to come soon) Next weekend they will be driving the 225 & stand up to my house where will be setuping it up w/the current content of the sump, and then using a pond liner to re-seal the sump!

Alright I'm back up in Mammoth, and the we are now getting ready for the last stage of the trade/225g setup.

On friday, Jess, Dave & Charles will be bringing up the 225g & stand to my house and we will be setting it up.. Soo. Without further ado, here is the VIDEO! (yes video!) of this weekends progress!!!

(please note this is the personal site of my friends whoms tank i'm trading for not my site)

My browser never lets me view these vids!

It's sooo difficult being e-challenged these days!

Anyway the pond liner is the perfect solution with little room for troubles down the road, if you can double line it for double protection.

wow.. well some bad news.. The tank we setup this weekend (the 180 that was traded for the 225). BROKE! Either it had a crack, or got cracked during the move / re-install.. but after being setup for 2 nites.. they noticed some bubles between the glass and the paint, so they peeled back the paint to find the tank had cracked all the way from top to bottom. LUCKLY they found it before it exploded and was able to save all there livestock..

Wow
I have been following your thread Brham. Sorry to hear about the tank crack. Do you have another tank to set up? What did you do with the livestock? I hope you are going to get another tank. Its always tough up here, because you can't get anything fast. Let me know if I can help.

Hi Victoria!

It wasn't my tank that cracked, I guess.. I should have told the whole story.. But basically how this 225g setup came to be is...

I had 1 90 gallon, and a 29 gallon SPS ready system (halides chiller ect), I traded the 29 gallon for a 90 gallon cube, I then traded the 2 90 gallon cubes for the tank of choice to my good friends who owned the 225g Tank. Well there tank of choice was a 180 gallon, so I picked it up from Los Angeles drove it down to San Diego, and helped them setup it and swap there livestock from the 225g. So after a hard weekend of moving, and tearing down 3 massive tanks, ,and setuping up what ended up to be an Great looking 180 w/my friends in San Diego, we come to find out the tank we traded for (the 180 grew or had a crack in it ) :(

Yea, but it's a real bummer. I'm trying to find away to help them out, since they are good friends of mine. It was nobodies fault. Just one of those things that happens when you go with used equipment. We looked everything over before we set it up, and it was holding water fine for 2 days with no signs of problems.

Well you know I figure the current title holder should be spoken for, if I am gonig to lose the title belt. Only by the RKD2 sump!! cheater!! lol
