225g Display 500g+ build thread

So here's a quick snap shot from tonight, the sand has settled the tank is nice and clear, still need to do some aquascaping, and start mounting corals ect..

(unfortunetly this photo came out really flat, the 3' of depth really makes a big diffrence in real life, I've gotta say that is the biggest + of this tank, over my previous 2' deep tank)

On the equipment progress front, I ran into a minor set back today when a leaky Uni-seal forced me to have to shut off the valve to the "fish room" and move the skimmer and other equpiment into the sump in the garage until I can replace the uni-seal with a bulk head.

Here's the stand, just stainted, still need to make some doors. Not to shabby for our first attempt at ever skinning a stand.

and here is a shot of the left side, I really didn't intend for this tank to turn out to be 3 side viewable, but because of how it sticks out in the room it's turning out to be setup that way, and i'm pretty happy about that.. The funny thing about this photo is when cropping it, it finally clicked that the SIDE view of this tank, is the same profile of the front view of my old 3x2x2 90, just with 5' of depth.. :) kinda neat!

Very nice. Did you cleaned or washed the sand first before adding it? Sand looks very clean. Post more pictures please.

Thanks, there is a litte over 300lbs of fresh (dead) sand. We placed it into 2 60 gallon rubermaid tubs outside and floaded them with a garden hose for about 2-4 hours, while we were setting everything else up. Every once in a while we'd go out and stir it up.

We also put the sand in the tank while we were leak testing the tank with fresh water, and then drained all that "silty" water before putting the Salt water in.

The sand used is

we picked it up from Custom Aqutics... The picture is misleading it's very white not yellow.

I've been self-medicating at my house you know me! nothing that to girl can't fix this weekend;)
did vic's bring you any frags today? I got a stag.

Alright, how bout some more photos, of equipment room, plumbing ect.. please excuse the mess I have yet to "route" my wires and get everything cleaned up.

Display Plumbing.. With this we decided to go with a "kiss" approach, no complicated plumbing, just 1 line in, 1 line out.

Here is the plumbing below the stand pipes, unfortunetly the stand pipes don't seem to be working quite as well.. My old 90 gallon had 1 pipe the same size, and it was able to handle my 2000gph return..for some reason.. these 2 stand pipes can not, any suggestions?

The sump w/insulation. Sadly, The Pond liner is rather unsightly, but I plan on trimming back the pondliner a little more to clean it up..may be ugly..but was a cheap effective, long turn fix and I wouldn't be suprised if it insulates the water even more which is a plus.

Here is the inside of the sump, my itty bitty g3 skimmer, phosreactor with carbon, and return pump.. The Plumbing to the Left goes to the "fish..er laundry room", and the plumbing to the right goes to the display.. Once again.. "Kiss theme with the plumbing"

Here is the "fish room" aka laundry, this is where i plan on moving all the equpiment, Calc Reactor, skimmer ect for easy access once the garage has the car back in, and reaching into a 4x4 bin to mess with your equpiment just didn't sound fun.. Sadly though the Uni-seal leaked on the equipment tank.. larger bulk head on the way..

Here is the plumbing from sump in the garage to the equipment room.

and here is a stand/tank shot.. I'm really looking forward to finishing the doors, and I've been toying with the idea of adding shelves since I'm not going to put a sump under the stand.

I've also decided i need to finish the canopy. I'm over the Lamps hanging from the cealing look, not to mention I'd also like to add 6 80w 60" T5s which will need to mount to something.

Hey mammoth reefer! Tank is looking good. Looks like you need to buy that house lol. I was just wondering do you think your tank will go thur a cycle? I'll give you some frags after everything settles including you. You look very busy.
Victoria

Hi Victoria! Thanks! I wish I could buy the house..sadly the lot w/the 2 other buildings is a little out of my price range @ 1.5mil..gotta love mammoth real estate. I don't think my tank is going to cycle at all. I didn't add any new rock, and the majority of the water was supporting the corals for the past 2 weeks when they were in the sump. I'm going to be down in crowley tonight for puppy class again, but your more then welcome to drop by anytime to check out the tank in person. I've got a number of things I can frag for you as well!

Well, here's a little sneak peak at some of the inhabitants. After I scape I'll setup the tri-pod and get some clearer shots..

First...my current fav monti.. Put it up high, it's green with neon green polyps, down low..brown with neon green polyps.. the contrast is awsome.
