27 clowns in the same tank 27 months~Thread of the Month

This tank is great I love all the clowns ( this may of already been asked ) did you introduce all the clowns at once or add some then some later?

The original 27 clowns were from the same clutch. They were born and raised together. A few have gone missing. Last year, I added offsprings from the dominant pair. The ones I added when they were 3/8" did not do well. Maybe half of those survived. I added a few more when they were larger, maybe 1/2". I think most of those did well, so maybe there are 4-5 offsprings with maybe 23 of the original clowns. They are very hard to count and now, hard to tell the youngsters from the smaller of the orignal clowns. I did add three baby Clarkii to the mix in hopes that they would stay at the bottom of the hierarchy as they mature. So far it looks like they mostly beat each other up:worried2: I emphatically do not recommend adding Clarkii with other clowns but these are my pearl eyed babies that I don't have a place for (their parents wouldn't let them stay in their tank). I will pull them out and send them to the lfs at the first sign of aggression to the Percs.

Someone pm'd me regarding my stocking list so I will post here:
27 true percs (maybe 23 orig plus 4 offspring)
3 Clarkii (time bombs)
2 Mandarins
1 flame angel
1 blue hippo tang
3 green chromis (orig 7, I got 6 full grown 5 years ago)
1 royal gamma
1 pajama cardinal
4 banggai cardinals (orig 2 plus 2 offspring)
1 yellow tail blue damsel
1 flame angel

I would be interested if anyone knew what the life expectancy of the various fishes are. I think that clowns can live 35 years and cardinals 3-5 years. I think one of my Chromis was 10 years old.

Where can I find the pick of your sump.
Are you running a kalk reactor.
I cannot find the link on the build or tank of the month.

Where can I find the pick of your sump.

For now, my tank build is:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660686
The lights are the same until I replace them with LED's, The ozone and calcium reactor are off line.

Are you running a kalk reactor.
My top off water does go through a 10" water filter housing filled with kalk. (1/2" in tube inserted so fresh water enters the bottom and tops off from the top of the unit) I am pretty lazy about shaking or filling it.
With wet skimming water changes, my calcium is at 360-370's which is better for pumps and good enough for my mostly softies.

I cannot find the link on ... tank of the month.

:( :( :( I am honored to be a thread of the month though. I am working on a web site explaining the tank so when my iphone app is live, I won't cause too many people to just randomly throw a bunch of clowns together. Commercial laden hi-def videos coming.

Incredible tank!! Loving those anemonies!

About how long do clownfish live? Do you plan on starting the process over once these die?

Thanks! My goal is for the tank to be self sustaining. There are reports of clownfish living to age 35, but like humans that live to 120 years old, I don't think it is truly that common. As long as I save a clutch of eggs every five or ten years, I think I can add a few babies and some will survive. Hopefully, more will always survive in bigger numbers than in the ocean or local fish store. As it looks now, barring some unforeseen accident on my part, the tank is pretty stable and the clowns and I can just grow old together with no more additions.

There are two different types, rose bubble tip anemones (RBTA) and green bubble tip anemones (GBTA). As far as how many actual anemones, it's a guess. I believe Mona last said there were around 14-18 she could count (after removing 20 or so.)

I just spent and hour or so reading this thread so I thought I'd try and help. :smurf:

For those of you who have not, I would recommend reading this thread all the way through. Yes, it's long but just about any question you've got about this tank and it's inhabitants has been answered already plus it's a blast to read! :bounce3:
