Looks great! I started Reefing with a 14g, I had R rubble in middle chamber it worked great for me. I also removed the stock canopy and built my own with two LED bars, a fan and a 70w MH. I used the Aquatic Life mini protein skimmer worked great for me. There are many was to MOD a cube.

BTW none of the pictures work in above post.
Have not finished reading book one but think I am already getting better shots. Broke out my tripod and used the delay picture mode.
Anyways FTS and some of the mystery coral. I think it is some sort of leather. Could it be a finger leather? I have one of those.

Pics are looking good, I assume by almost done with book one you meant you bought and/or are going through the kelby series?
Not sure what mystery coral is, but probably finger leather. Also watch for babies around the tank from that Kenya tree coral (pinkish leather). I had one and it was somewhere between softball and basketball sized when I finally got rid if it. And it dropped new babies all the time, and they got all over the tank. Not really a problem since they don't hurt anything, they just get everywhere. Cheap and easy frags to sell though!

My clean up crew needs replenished. So just did an order of snails. Will get my crabs local. I have not seen my emerald crab in a long while. Starting to worry. But I guess and second one would be ok if he is still in there....
Only two red legged crabs so need more of those. Still have my one cleaner shrimp so wont need those.
Other then more hair algae then normal tank is ok. No deaths but not much growth with my corals. Really wish the tank would fill up. But its happy so guess that's a good thing.

Careful with having TOO much CUC. the snails could be dying bc they don't have enough to eat and that could be contributing to your algae issues. And 4 fish is not too many. I have 5 in my 25g and have great water parameters
The number of fishes to keep depends on (adult) size of fishes, what you are planning on keeping, your maintenance routine, and your feeding habits.
4 is a good number. I have 3 small and 1 medium fish in my 29g biocube. I could add two more small fishes. I will likely have more territorial issues and aggression issues before I have bioload issues.
If you only did small non-aggressive fishes, or a group of small fishes, you could do up to 6. I wouldn't do much more than that.

I have two true clown fish. One yellow clown goby and one royal gramma I think I spelled all that right. I think what caused this algae bloom was my emerald crab has died. Have not seen it in two weeks. Normally I see every couple days. I was feeding brine shrimp/blood worms once a week. Marian snow once a week and some small pellets for the fish on thee days a week. Now I am just feeding the fish every other day with the pellets. At least till the algae gets under control. My cleaner shrimp is s till alive and well.
I didn't get the recommended amount of snails for my tank. Cause I had a few left but not many. I have three hermit crabs left of the 7 I use to have back in Jan. I got this package to add. https://www.reefcleaners.org/index....mart_product_id=216&virtuemart_category_id=20

What algae is growing out of control? In your last pictures, the tank looked surprisingly clean.
You should be able to get away with 5g every 2 weeks, especially as the tank matures. Are you siphoning out the rear chambers with water changes? A lot of detritus can settle back there and break down, spiking nutrients, especially early in a tank's life.
Also, you could add an appropriate non-aggressive fish or two to the tank without it being overstocked.

No think I am ok with my fish. I have some hair algae and some green algae of some sort in the sand. The stuff in the sand is new. So right now I am doing a 3 day black out. Hope that well stop it before it gets a foot hold.
Yes I clean out the back chambers often. I move the sand around before each change. I don't like to try and vacuum it I lose to much sand when I do.
I still have not seen that emerald crab. I think his death may be what is causing my problem.
