Then I made a filter box holder to keep my filter wool in place in my sump tank. I made two of these boxes â€"œ One for filter wool and another for my passive carbon. Hopefully the filter socks will trap those larger debris and the filter wool will trap those smaller debris and I will not have those floating particles like in my current tank :p

Ran out of grey PVC pipes…:mad2: will work on some SPS racks for my multi-purpose tank and some portable racks once I get more grey piping. I’m planning something portable where I can raise/reduce the height of each stand easily, whenever required. Will show some pictures to explain better once compete…

Still looking for black eggcrate and will change all the white to black to match my grey/ black/red theme if I can ever find it here…. :worried:

What do you guys think so far? :D

Bart is the reason Ed ran out of PVC. Bart used up the world's supply on his tank! :lol2:

haha i might be right

Ed ....Great build .cant wait to see it runing. Sorry if I didnt catch the info reading your thread but what are you using for bulkheads ...they dont look like regular ones.

Thanks mike... I can't get those regular bulkheads here in China so this is actually a DYI bulkhead where they make the thread longer for tank used, which they used here locally. So far it's very reliable as I have many friends who uses it before and I'm also using it for my current tank....

Look like yours coming along nicely too.... :)

WAIT……got a call from DHL this morning……mmmm wonder what could it be?? :rolleye1: :fun4:

SOLARIS 1-SERIES ARRIVED ….…

SOLARIS 1-SERIES ARRIVED ….…

It’s finally here…. funny if you think about it as it travels from China to US to Singapore and now back to China…. :eek2:

Since there seem to be much interest in this fixture, I will try to do as much detail review as possible in the next few weeks â€"œ from an end-user stand point; REMEMBER I’m not a lighting expert, just a humble reefer so don’t expect reviews on Par/ Lux levels and what sorts..… :D

1st IMPRESSION:
I must say the overall packaging is much improved compare to what I read in the past in some forums… the package came without a wooden casing structure but double packed with card board with styrofoam inside to hold the fixture in place. Initially I was worried as there was no wooden casing for the fixture but upon opening it, all seem fine as DHL was very careful in their delivery â€"œ thumb up for DHL but I still think it’s a very risky way to ship such an expensive light fixture….!!

Still cannot believe this light travel from China to US to Singapore and back to China in this packaging and noting is broken â€"œ not visually anyway??

Solaris â€"œ in package II:

Inside the 2nd packaging, there is some Styrofoam and bubble wrap to hope the fixture in place and to protect the fixture…

Bubble wrap removed….

Plastic removed and fixture turnover to show the LED. The housing is extruded aluminum and the splash lens is acrylic, according to their website.

I love the simplicity of the controller…just 4 buttons… :inlove:

The ballasts comes in a separate box:

My 72” fixtures comes with 3 Ballasts and each is quite well protected with Styrofoam:

This is a close-up of one of the ballasts:

And the complete family…

Oh yeah, comes with a manual too….was expecting a nicely printed glossy booklet or something for this premier item but unfortunately some A4 photocopy paper staple together….

SolarisManual.jpg

However, I must compliment the manual as it’s very detail and easy to understand….not too much technical stuff in there, unlike a computer or those camera manuals… :reading:

Overall fixture seem solid and quite light compare to my other MH lighting fixtures of this length…each section consist of 25 LED lights with a combination of 6 x Actinic Blue Daylight, 9 x Full Spectrum White, 6 x Actinic Blue Night Light, 4 x Full Spectrum White Night LED with a total of 5 sections for my 72” fixture.

Fired it up to see if there are any out of order LED strips…

Also tested all four fans to see if it works (2 on each end) and all works as per manual….

I also order the Solaris Hanging kit (‘hint’ for those who plans to pendant hang your Solaris will have to purchased this separately). It comes with a 54" long stainless steel airline cable that is adjustable in height. For the $$ you pay for this premium light fixture, you would expect them to throw this in like most other fixtures… (hope PFO is reading this…)

However, it does come with those standard plastic-mounting feet, which you can slide along the entire length of the fixture, should you wish to sit on top of your eurobracing and an Eye hooks (screw with a ring head), that screw onto the top of the fixture. This enables the fixture to be pendant mounted with your own stainless steel cables but mine seem to be missing???

Hook it up to my movable rail and fix perfectly. I position the fixture 10cm from the edge of my tank. For those who are interested, the distant between the hole for the hanging kit is 122cm apart for my 72” fixture and is NOT MOVABLE so make sure to get the right measurement should you wish to pre-drill holes in your canopy or ceiling.

I still need to make a rack to hold the 3 ballasts in my cabinet and once that is done in these 2 days, I will fire it up again and give more review….

So far, overall 1st impression verdict…. “I’M PLEASED!!”

More to come in the life of Ed the Reefer….. :frog:
